A device exploded overnight from Friday to Saturday in front of the Labor Ministry building in central Athens without causing any casualties, Greek police announced on Saturday.
The explosion, which caused material damage, was preceded by an anonymous telephone call to the Greek daily
“Editors' Journal”
, according to the police press release.
An unknown person warned that an explosive device had been placed in front of the ministry and would detonate 40 minutes later.
The area around the building was cordoned off by police and the device exploded at 1:29 a.m. local time.

According to the public channel ERT, the device had been placed in a bag placed in front of the gates of a bank close to the ministry.
The police have not yet reported any claims.
But attacks targeting public establishments, banks or diplomatic representations have been recurring in Greece for years.
They are generally attributed to far-left or anarchist movements.
The investigation was entrusted to the anti-terrorism services, according to the police.
