In many cities in Bavaria, people will once again demonstrate against right-wing extremist tendencies within society on Saturday, February 3rd.

Munich - This weekend, numerous people will once again take to the streets in around 60 cities in the Free State to demonstrate for democracy and against right-wing extremism, hatred and intolerance.

The largest protests are expected in the Free State in Augsburg, Nuremberg and Würzburg.

But many smaller cities also have significant numbers of demonstrators.

Augsburg has to cordon off Rathausplatz: too many participants

According to initial information from the Augsburg police, around 25,000 people took a stand against the right in the Fugger city.

According to the officials, the crowd was so great on Saturday, February 3rd that the town hall square had to be cordoned off.

A police spokesman confirmed this to the German Press Agency (dpa).

Adjacent streets have also been opened to better distribute the crowds.

Participants in the protest in Augsburg include the Minister of State for Culture Claudia Roth (Greens) and Mayor Eva Weber (CSU).

Around 25,000 people are said to have gathered at the town hall square in Augsburg on Saturday, February 3rd.

They demonstrate against right-wing extremist tendencies in society.

In Nuremberg, people crowd into the subway

The press spokesman for the Middle Franconia police headquarters, Michael Petzold, is also on site in Nuremberg.

When asked by our editorial team, he said that the situation was currently calm.

The organizers had expected a total of 10,000 people there, but in the end three times as many came.

As Nordbayern.de reports, the demonstrators at the Kornmarkt in Nuremberg are even said to be pushing themselves into the Opernhaus subway stop.

Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) and the Protestant regional bishop Christian Kopp also spoke at the rally in the city center.

In Würzburg, the crowds weren't quite as big: According to the police, around 5,000 people marched through downtown Würzburg.

But there are demonstrations not only in Bavarian cities, many people also came to demonstrate against the right-wing in smaller towns such as Kronach in Upper Franconia.

According to the News5 news agency, numerous parties and associations have called for a rally in Kronach under the motto “Never again is now”.
