The Israeli army said on Saturday it had struck thousands of Lebanese Hezbollah targets in Syria and southern Lebanon since the start of the war in October between Israel and Palestinian Hamas in Gaza.
“We have attacked Hezbollah infrastructure in Syria”
since October 7, army spokesperson Daniel Hagari said during a press briefing.
“We attacked more than 50 targets on the ground and by air
,” he added, while the Israeli army rarely admits its operations in Syria.
He also reported strikes against
“more than 3,400 Hezbollah targets throughout southern Lebanon
,” claiming that 200
“terrorists and commanders”
had been killed during the same period.
None of these claims was independently verifiable by the AFP.

Constant exchanges of fire since October 7
Since the unprecedented attack by the Islamist movement Hamas in Israel on October 7, which sparked the war in Gaza, there have been constant exchanges of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, a movement allied with Iran, the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and Hamas.
Hezbollah regularly claims to target Israeli army positions on the border, in support of the Palestinians in Gaza.
Israel responds by bombing targets in southern Lebanon.
In nearly four months, 218 people, mostly fighters, have been killed in southern Lebanon according to an AFP count.
On the Israeli side, fifteen people died, nine soldiers and six civilians, according to the army.
