The Neubiberg sports center is completely dilapidated.

A study will now decide whether to demolish or renovate.

Neubiberg

- A feasibility study is intended to determine whether it is economical to renovate the triple gymnasium, the apartments and the adjacent catering areas in the Neubiberg sports center on Zwergerstrasse, which have been dilapidated after 40 years, or whether a partial demolition or even a complete new construction of the heavily used facility is necessary.

The local council unanimously cleared the way for the study, which, according to the community, cost between 60,000 and 80,000 euros.

“There is an increasing need for renovation”

In any case, a more extensive renovation of the largely closed outdoor areas of the popular, but recently groaning sports center of the Neubiberg clubs is also planned.

Actually, the main plan for the current year was to renovate those outdoor areas with the closed tartan track, main playing field and grandstand.

The adjacent all-weather pitch should then also be reworked.

But now the urgent needs of the adjacent building structures have called the administration and the local council onto the scene and forced them to act.

“There is an increasing need for renovation,” warned building authority manager Bettina Riegg in the council.

Water penetrates into Halle

Scenarios have long been known to those active locally when, for example, large amounts of water enter the hall during heavy rain and thus repeatedly slow down indoor sports.

In this context, Riegg also defended the correctness of a measure taken in 2012 to remove the layer of gravel on the roof of the triple gymnasium.

“Essential for structural reasons,” concluded the head of the building authority.

The only disadvantage is that the underlying protective layer has become increasingly porous over the years and was unable to keep water from entering the hall in damaged areas during heavy rain.

Riegg and Mayor Thomas Pardeller (CSU) agreed with the council that comparatively minor improvements and repairs were no longer enough.

Especially since the building technology and heating system, which is extremely outdated, is in “urgent need of renovation,” according to the town hall.

A picture of gradual decline that, upon closer inspection, has long since continued in the catering industry.

Opinions from the local council

Now those responsible for the community want to take the big planning offensive and consult three engineering firms.

“Once the experts’ results are available, they will be presented to the local council,” said Riegg.

The committee then has the opportunity to make a final decision.

A request that the councilors shared.

SPD councilor Elisabeth Gerner said that the overall concept must be “well coordinated”, which she very much welcomes.

“It shouldn’t be the case that the tartan track and sports field are first extensively renovated and then the construction vehicles to renovate the hall tear everything down again.”

Riegg promised that this would be taken into account.

Also on a precise selection of “experts knowledgeable in all specialist areas”, which Reiner Höcherl (FW) called for.

“It is also important to stay far away from the 80,000 euros for expertise when tendering,” appealed Third Mayor Höcherl with a view to finances.

“It’s good that a renovation is also being considered and the facility is being looked at as a whole,” emphasized Lucia Kott.

Given the current circumstances on site, it will definitely be a multi-million dollar project.
