A neighbor accuses the SVA Palzing of “illegal clear-cutting” because 20 trees were felled.

However, the mayor puts a stop to the accusation.

Palzing

– A neighbor of the sports facility reported to the FT that “almost 20 trees were cleared on the west side of the SVA Palzing sports facility.”

The Palzinger accuses the local sports club of the “probably illegal” action, which is said to have “radically cut down perfectly healthy trees up to 30 meters high” - without taking nature, noise and pollution control into account.

“The trees have outgrown us”

But when asked by the FT, Zolling's mayor Helmut Priller put a stop to this accusation against the SVA Palzing: "The trees were removed by the SVA Palzing in consultation with us." And there were several reasons for that.

“The trees simply outgrew us in height – caring for them was no longer possible with the equipment we had available,” says Priller.

“The trees contained a lot of dead wood, which we could not have easily removed quickly if necessary and so could no longer reliably fulfill our duty of care.

When the wind was strong, the trees repeatedly lost a lot of branches, some of them larger ones, and thus caused a corresponding amount of maintenance before the games or before the lawn care.”

Players could have gotten injured

The trees had caused more and more problems over time: “Due to the growth of the trees, the leaf infestation in autumn was now problematic for the game operations - among other things, the playing field lines were covered,” explains Priller.

“If there are too many leaves on the field, there is also a certain risk of injury for the players.

The leaves therefore had to be removed before the games.”

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

In addition, the playing field would no longer have been able to dry out completely due to the shadows cast in the western area.

“The football pitch, especially in the south-western area, was regularly so wet and soft that the grass in this area was only partially playable or was damaged during the games.

“Soft, wet grass also poses a certain risk of injury for the players,” says Priller.

Replacement plantings planned

The mayor can reassure the agitated neighbors: “A replacement planting is planned.” What’s more: “In the future, the growth height should be kept at a level as part of maintenance so that the building yard is able to use its own equipment to carry out maintenance pruning or remove dead wood “to be able to do this,” says Priller.

“Furthermore, the resulting reduction in shadows should permanently improve the quality of the playing field in the southwestern area in the future.”
