Scandals have been a part of “I’m a Star – Get Me Out of Here!” since day one.

At the start of the new jungle camp season, we look back at the most dramatic moments of the RTL show.

1 / 19As early as 2004, in the first ever jungle camp season, there was a lot of blasphemy: Caroline Beil earned the nickname “Hackebeil” from her fellow campers after she had taken on a whole series of stars.

Unpleasant words were said in particular about Susan Stahnke, Daniel Küblböck († 35) and Mariella Ahrens - the TV audience heard all of them thanks to the cleverly placed cameras.

Beil even took a different plane to Germany to avoid further confrontations... © Screenshot/RTL/RTL+/I'm a star – get me out of here!

2 / 19Hip-hop producer DJ Tomekk caused a real scandal in 2008, in the third season of “I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here!”: During the jungle camp, a video emerged of the Polish native shortly before his Departure from the hotel in Australia shows.

In it he raises his right arm in the Hitler salute.

RTL then threw the musician out of the show.

In the Bild interview, DJ Tomekk was remorseful afterwards: “I don’t know how something like that could have happened to me.

I’m so sorry.” © Screenshot/RTL/RTL+/I’m a star – get me out of here!

3 / 19Sarah Knappik didn't have an easy time in the fifth jungle camp (2011): she constantly clashed with her fellow campers and vehemently refused to face the tests.

This culminated in a memorable moment... © Screenshot/RTL/RTL+/I'm a star – get me out of here!

4 / 19Actor Mathieu Carrière got on his knees and begged Sarah Knappik to leave the camp voluntarily.

She no longer felt comfortable there and was severely bullied and treated with hostility.

Some of the camp residents even demanded that RTL throw Knappik out of the show.

The former GNTM candidate ultimately took care of this all by herself: she redeemed herself with the famous words “I'm a star - get me out of here!”.

5 / 19In the fifth season of the jungle camp there was another excitement: Jay Khan and Indira Weis made headlines on “I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here!” by entering into a love affair in the Australian bush.

Despite the heavy smooching, the viewers had their doubts... © Screenshot/RTL/RTL+/I'm a star – get me out of here!

6 / 19 Sarah Knappik also accused the lovebirds of faking their jungle camp dalliance: “Jay was at my house before the show and suggested that I play a love story like Katy Price and Peter Andrew,” she revealed to her fellow candidates at the time – but hardly anyone wanted to believe her.

Jay Khan spoke out four years later in an RTL interview and admitted: “The fact is, I was at her house.

The fact is, I cut it in the flax back then.

I stand by that.” © Screenshot/RTL/RTL+/I am a star – get me out of here!

7 / 19In season 6, Vincent Raven unfortunately attracted attention not only because of his iron stomach and lively appetite, but also because of homophobic comments: red was a "faint color," complained the mentalist and made no secret of his questionable worldview.

He said, among other things, that “you should never elect women as bosses; they start going crazy.”

8 / 19Open insights in the Australian bush: DSDS participant Patrick Nuo revealed in the jungle that he had been addicted to adult films for a long time.

He watched dirty films for more than three hours a day and as a result “no longer felt anything about even the most beautiful women”.

9 / 19In contrast to the harmless snakes that were used in the jungle test, these two ladies sprayed a lot of poison in 2013: A real bitching argument broke out between Georgina Fleur and Fiona Erdmann.

This was further spurred on when Erdmann received a letter from her lover, which was read out loud: “Your mission is still to eliminate Sams with hair extensions,” it said in the letter – for Georgina Fleur it was clearly a “declaration of war” © Screenshot /RTL/RTL+/I am a star – get me out of here!

10 / 19The eighth season of “I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here!” Michael Wendler really stirred things up, even though his stay in the camp was only short-lived: the pop singer left the show voluntarily after just four days, but then wanted to move back in.

However, RTL refused.

11 / 19Things really escalated between Thorsten Legat and Helena Fürst in the 2016 jungle camp (season 10): The ex-footballer was “the wrongest thing I’ve come across here,” raged the poor man’s lawyer, but the kicker shot back , insulted his opponent as a “fart woman” and doubted live on television whether Fürst was doing a good job as a single mother.

12 / 19In the eleventh jungle camp season, no candidate polarized as much as Alexander “Honey” Keen: The ex of GNTM winner Kim Hnizdo provoked with his arrogant, self-satisfied manner. This was expressed not only in the camp, but also in the jungle tests, which Honey liked to break off without a care in the world before they even started.

While his roommates went hungry because of it, some viewers accused him of a deliberate tactic.

13 / 19 Hanka Rackwitz also made few new friends in season 11: her fellow campers sometimes had little sympathy for her obsessive compulsive disorders (compulsive washing, compulsive control, claustrophobia, panicked fear of dirt, wounds and physical contact).

Problematic: Instead of going to the toilet, she relieved herself several times in the pond where the others usually bathed.

14 / 19In the jungle camp 2019 (season 13), Chris Töpperwien and Bastian Yotta were bubbling over with hatred for each other.

Before the show, the two had already had a lot of arguments on Instagram, and the argument reached its climax during “I’m a star – get me out of here!”: “I think that guy is terrible.

I know what kind of left-wing bug this guy is.

“I got a lot of emails from his fans who begged me to tell him what they think,” said the “Goodbye Germany” emigrant, who once had a close friendship with Yotta.

15 / 19The 14th jungle camp season once again caused a lot of drama: Danni Büchner experienced an emotional time in Australia.

The widow of Jens Büchner (†49) received massive criticism on Twitter and also made herself unpopular with her fellow candidates.

She had to take part in the jungle test every day.

Her sometimes very intense emotional outbursts were labeled as a deliberately staged “Danni show” by Elena Miras and Co.

16 / 19For Janina Youssefian, the time on “I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here!” (Season 15, 2022) was neither long nor really glorious: The model made a racist statement at her jungle camp competitor Linda-Caroline Nobat during an argument the head.

RTL reacted: “We have to inform you that statements like Janina’s cannot be tolerated.

“Janina has to leave the camp,” moderator Daniel Hartwich told the campers over the jungle telephone at the time.

17 / 19And Eric Stehfest also made a misfire in 2022, which was less well received by parts of the jungle camp audience (and his fellow candidates): Visibly annoyed by everyday camp life, the former GZSZ actor boycotted the jungle test right at the beginning.

“I'm actually not afraid, but the fact is that there are people in the camp who freely say that they think I'm really shitty, that they think my personality is shitty and that they've used my feelings to tell me stories tell me,” he explained his decision to the astonished moderators.

18 / 19Probably the biggest jungle camp scandal of 2023 did not take place in the Australian bush, but in the Hotel Versace, where the accompanying persons stayed: Peter Klein (l.) and Yvonne Woelke (r.) got along so well there that Peter's wife Iris accused the two of them of having an affair - but the alleged couple denied everything.

The result: a war of the roses that lasted for months and made numerous headlines.

Murwillumbah – On January 19, 2024, the jungle camp will enter its 17th round.

Since 2004, “I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here!”, with interruptions between 2005 and 2007 and 2010, has entertained an audience of millions who, episode after episode, hope for the next big drama.

There has been plenty of this in the RTL cult format so far, as our photo series shows again in unforgettable scenes.
