If you plan to go to the Saint-Cloud national domain in your car this Sunday morning, you will have to leave it in the car park at the entrance to the site.

Manager of the 460 ha site on behalf of the State, the Center des monuments nationaux (CMN) is testing the closure of all of the estate's roads to automobile traffic from this Sunday.

Called “Pieds à terre”, this operation will be repeated every first Sunday of the month from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. until next July.

If during these monthly closures motorists will still be able to access the area, they will no longer be able to cross it.

They will have to leave their vehicle in the car parks located in the immediate vicinity of one of the five entrance gates which allow access to the area by car from the municipalities of Saint-Cloud, Garches, Ville-d'Avray, and Marnes- Coquette.

“The avenues of Marnes, Versailles and Chartres, which for the latter connects the Grande Gerbe to the Balustrade roundabout, will be closed to automobile traffic in order to be able to restore the heart of the area to pedestrians and cyclists.

They will be able to take advantage of it without fearing that a car will roll over.

We have already closed these lanes to traffic during events such as running races, but this is the first time that we have done so on our own initiative outside of an event organized by a service provider,” explains Brice Mathieu, the administrator of the national domain, who indicates that this experiment could possibly be perpetuated at the end of the testing phase.

“We will carry out analyzes during these six months.

We will see more clearly about the uses of our visitors to decide whether we generalize this closure every Sunday morning, but this is not on the agenda for the moment”, tempers the administrator of the domain who indicates that this testing phase is also a way of sending a signal to motorists.

“It’s about changing habits and making people understand that the Saint-Cloud national domain is not a bypass of the A13 motorway.”
