Fancy a game of billiards?

Forstern's youth room has moved - to the former after-school container in the center of town.

It should now fill with life.

Forstern

– playing billiards, table football, ratcheting – and all of this on two floors: the Forstern youth room has moved.

From cramped conditions in the Eicher building to one of the two after-school containers in the center of town.

The first young people have already taken over the new rooms.

The opening will be officially celebrated on February 9th.

The community has long been concerned about the desire of young people in Forstern to have their own space.

Even signatures were once collected, but implementation was always difficult.

Until mid-2021, the open youth meeting could be opened in permanent rooms - in the former Eicher administration building.

Now the ChillZone, as it is called, has moved and has expanded considerably: the youth club is now located in one of the two containers in the center of the town.

The day care center had been housed there since 2008 and moved to the former kindergarten rooms on Franz-Jaksch-Weg shortly before Christmas.

Like a second living room: the ChillZone youth club in the former after-school container in Forstern is comfortably furnished.

Speaking of which: “In principle, everyone helped” when the youth club was moved, reports the social contact person Mathias Weigl.

“It went really quickly,” says youth officer Simona Loupal: Everything was done within a week.

The refrigerator was transported on a pallet with a front loader to the center of the town because of the coolant, and the building yard helped to lift the pool table up the outside stairs to the first floor.

“Two rooms upstairs are not yet permanently occupied.

The use will arise,” says youth leader Aaron Cester confidently.

You can imagine a relaxation room for homework or projects, the larger room could become a craft and creative room.

For example, printing on T-shirts: Loupal offers this in the summer holiday program at home in the garden.

“You could do that here even in bad weather,” she says and is convinced that the young people’s wishes will certainly develop.

There is a large kitchen on the ground floor - "it's super cool and even has a dishwasher," says Loupal and is looking forward to activities such as baking cookies, which last took place before Christmas in the old, cramped youth club.

Also on the ground floor there are couches, televisions, games consoles and table football.

“One of our regular visitors uses a wheelchair and loves playing table football, which is why the table is on the ground floor,” explains Loupal.

“It’s much more comfortable here and really huge,” says Cester about the new meeting place.

And Weigl adds: “That’s a 180 degree turnaround.”

Every Wednesday and Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., young people can come there to play billiards, table football, play a video game or just “chill out” – hence the name.

Cester and Theresa Gallenberger, who will soon also be training to become a youth leader, ensure that the youth are not alone.

The two 19-year-olds also manage the Instagram account chillzone.forstern.jugendraum and post events in the Heimat-Info app and in the Forstern group on Facebook, thereby reaching the parents of the target group: “A boy came recently with his mom to watch the meeting.

She read about it in the app,” says Loupal.

Formerly an after-school care center, now a youth room: The container on the left in the picture is now the ChillZone.

The future of the second container is still open.

The visitors to the ChillZone are usually between twelve and 15 years old.

“There was a time in early autumn when seven or eight people always came,” reports Weigl.

“Sometimes there is only one person there, and very rarely none.” This has to take place first and the new location has to become better known.

“We hope that now that we are closer to the school and in the middle of the town, more young people will come,” says Cester.

“Especially now in spring, due to the proximity to the hard court, when there is more going on,” adds Mayor Rainer Streu.

“And even if they just get a drink from us after playing football and have a taste,” says Loupal.

Weigl also has high hopes for the synergy effect of hard court/school and youth club: “They come to the club for an ice cream, then they experience something here and come back.”

The door to the site may be moved and the ChillZone will be made more visible to the outside in the spring.

With graffiti, for example, “but the young people have to decide that,” says Streu.

Currently there is a glowing “Open” sign that signals: Something is happening here.

Cester and Gallenberger are currently the only young supervisors.

But they would be happy about further support.

“If more visitors come, you need more offers – and therefore more supervisors,” explains Weigl.

“It’s more fun then,” adds Loupal.

And if you want to plan actions, you also need more helpers, says Gallenberger.

So far, a few puzzle evenings have taken place in the new rooms.

The first big event will be the welcome party (see below).

And we are considering offering a special event on the first Friday of every month beyond normal opening hours - cooking together or film evenings, for example.

Welcome party

All young people aged twelve and over are invited to the welcome party on Friday, February 9th, from 7 p.m.

Up to 15 years old you can party until 10 p.m., from 16 years old until midnight.

Admission is free, non-alcoholic cocktails and pizza cost a small fee.

From 10 p.m. there is also beer for everyone over 16 years old.

Music, games and a little scavenger hunt in the container are also planned.

The youth meeting itself is open from 4:30 p.m.
