Not every holder of the Order of the Heron had that much stamina.

Ilse Aigner stayed on Saturday until the end of the five-hour and brilliant program of the Erdinger Carnival Society Narrhalla.

Erding - The President of the Bavarian State Parliament appeared - in keeping with the difficult office - in the costume of a lion tamer with tailcoat, top hat and boots - and was in a great mood.

Aigner is in prominent company as a recipient of the Order of the Heron.

Since its revival in 2017, pastors Rainer Maria Schießler, Fredl Fesl and Hansi Kraus have received it, among others.

The order itself goes back to the Erdinger artist Benno Hauber (1924-1994).

The motif also adorns the facade of the Beautiful Tower.

Narrhalla President Detlef Felixberger gave the laudatory speech.

He recalled the statutes, according to which the order honors, among other things, achievements in the areas of customs, culture and the cultivation of Bavarian humor.

These must be personalities who have distinguished themselves in political, social or scientific fields.

“All of this fits Ilse Aigner,” announced Felixberger and discussed the medal holder’s vita.

He particularly praised the fact that Aigner forewent her high school diploma in the 1980s, took up a male-dominated profession as an electrical engineer and asserted herself in it.

The Narrhalla President also discussed Aigner's affinity for carnival.

After all, Aigner has been on the executive board of the Upper Bavarian Association of German Carnival since 1995, of which she has been honorary president since 2021.

He also recalled Aigner's commitment as water rescue chairman.

Felixberger continued, how much she is connected to her homeland can be seen in how Aigner maintains the Oberlandler dialect and was awarded the Bavarian language root for this in 2022.

Aigner's political career took her back to Munich via Munich, Bonn and Berlin, where she followed Barbara Stamm as President of the State Parliament.

Felixberger also praised Aigner's sense of humor and her ability to laugh at herself.

The new medal recipient surprised the packed town hall with a thank you in the form of a rhymed hand-written speech.

“Fine gentlemen, noble women, how wonderful you are to look at,” she called into the hall.

Erding is a place where laughter sprouts, with the Narrhalla “a strong team rules”.

Aigner received a lot of applause and enthusiastic shouts, and during the breaks many people didn't want to miss the chance to have their photo taken with the lion tamer.

Carnival can sometimes be a serious matter, but it is political anyway.

At the beginning of the order meeting, Felixberger discussed the anti-right demonstration on Sunday in Erding (see report on local page 1).

Visibly moved, he remembered the Dorfen carnival society, which started in 1946, a year after the end of the Second World War, with the motto “After 1000 years we are fools again”.

The KG was also banned under the Nazis.

Fools are there to hold a mirror up to those in power, “but for that we need freedom and democracy,” said the Narrhalla President and received a lot of applause for his appeal: “We all have to stand up for that.”

The special thing about the Heron Order meeting: The audience experiences the complete program with all the gardens, the prince's speech and waltz and sketch.

And they saw a premiere: the city park talk.

Donkey Max (Dieter Jäckel) talks to two rooks (Steffen Schadt and Martin Maierthaler). They ponder city politics.

The prince couple Amelie I and Alexander I had previously done this.

Last but not least, the sketch dealt with the big and small turmoil in the ducal city.

A recurring theme running through the program was the complaint that there was nothing going on in Erding in the evenings and that's why you even had to drive to Dorfen.

The delayed winter service and the hasty public order office at the beginning of December also got their fat off - while Mayor Max Gotz, disguised as Unlucky Marie or Death, smiled away any criticism.

The costumes in the audience were a show, such as the city priest Martin Garmaier masked as Gold-Marie.

The Guards received a lot of applause, especially the new mixed formation, which has a good chance of taking part in the German Championships in Cologne in March.

The Lotten Harmonists made their second appearance.
