This year too, as has happened since 2015, the blessing of mobile phones, tablets and computers was repeated in the small country church in Nuvole on the hills of Città di Castello, on the border between Umbria and Tuscany.
"Today in the parish of Nuvole we celebrate our owner, San Biagio bishop and martyr, invoked as protector of the throat", explained the parish priest Don Giorgio Mariotti.
The religious man first blessed the throats of the faithful (with the age-old formula of crossed candles invoking the intercession of Saint Blaise) and then moved on to mobile phones with the delivery of a sticker with the image and prayer of the Saint.
He then renewed the appeal for a "fair and conscious" use of social media, the internet and technologies.
"We also know - he then said - that Saint Biagio is also the protector of those who use cell phones in particular. By blessing them, they ask for his intercession with the Lord so that they can be preserved from any physical damage that excessive use can cause to the body and be preserved and healed in spirit from their own and others' wickedness which unfortunately we all experience.
These tools today, with the new achievements of science and the artificial intelligence with which they are equipped, can become means of blessings, of knowledge of goodness, of peace, acceptance, forgiveness, beauty, goodness, or even the opposite".
