The energy efficiency network for municipalities in the Oberland is in its final stages.

By the end of 2024, 1,727 tons of CO2 should be saved.

District - At the 10th network meeting in Fischbachau, Sebastian Gröbmayr from the Institute for Sustainable Energy Supply (INEV) motivated the participants to decide on further projects and implement them.

As reported, the Institute for Sustainable Energy Supply (INEV) and the Oberland Energy Transition Competence Center provide technical support to the municipal network.

The communities of Benediktbeuern, Bernried, Egling, Fischbachau, Gmund, Hausham, Holzkirchen, Otterfing, Pähl, Polling, Tutzing, the city of Tegernsee and the Miesbach district are involved.

During the network meetings, classic topics such as energy efficiency in municipal properties, the introduction of energy management systems and support for local heating networks are discussed.

But future topics such as electromobility and the combination of electricity, heat and mobility are also examined.

In parallel to the network meetings, the municipalities receive individual technical advice on the implementation of the projects.

Gröbmayr emphasized the favorable constellation within the network and pointed out that the so-called adaptation of successfully implemented measures was expressly desired here.

The participating municipalities should consciously learn from each other.

The energy efficiency network will come together for three years.

Strong emphasis on renewable energies

The technical presentation at the network meeting focused on the amendment of the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) and the effects this has on municipalities.

Section 2 of the EEG, which came into force on July 29, 2022, is intended to give priority to renewable energies in the approval process.

Saskia Militz from the Environmental Energy Law Foundation explained that the legislative stipulation gives renewable energies a particularly high weight in considerations.

The reason for this is that they are in the overriding public interest.

Small hydropower has potential

One form of renewable energy is small hydropower, which still has a lot of potential to be used in the Oberland - this is also the case in some participating municipalities.

Anian Pauli from the IHK Munich and Upper Bavaria showed this in his lecture.

With small hydropower, the potential energy in the height difference in flowing water is converted into electrical energy.

Small hydropower could therefore represent an opportunity to cover the base electricity load of municipalities.

Fischbachau's mayor, Stefan Deingruber, presented the network participants with what such a system could look like.

At the end of the meeting, he invited them to visit a small hydroelectric power plant on site in Fischbachau.

Ludwig Leitner, owner and operator of the hydroelectric power plant in the hamlet of Achau, explained how it works and shared his passion for this type of CO2-free electricity generation with the network representatives.
