The IDF allowed publication this morning (Sunday) that Major General Shimon Yehoshua Assulin, 24 years old from Beit Shemesh, a fighter in the 924th Engineering Battalion, Harel Brigade (10) was killed yesterday in a battle in the southern Gaza Strip. Assulin was killed as a result of an encounter with terrorists.
The mayor of Beit Shemesh, Aliza Bloch, paid tribute to him: "Dear Asoulin family, Rabbi Rafi and Tahla, the heart refuses to believe. The news is unimaginable and hard to bear. The entire city of Beit Shemesh mourns and mourns the fall of your son, the hero of Israel. Shimon, a soldier in the 924th engineering battalion Harel, insisted on enlisting in the reserves and was supposed to be released on Monday, fell in battle in the south of the Gaza Strip in defense of the people and the land."
"The Assolin family is a deep-rooted family and exemplary figures in the community of the city of Beit Shemesh," she continued.
