A plug-in hybrid version of the Defender? How does it feel, what does it do and who is it actually for?

Many gnarled raised an uproar at the introduction of the current generation of the Defender.

After all, words have been written about the loss of the paved road.

Lines full of sorrow for the trators of another era.

Whines of longing for goats nailed from surfaces climb up the chest.

I must admit that I was not a party to all of these even for one moment.

On the contrary.

I'm horrified by a motor advance like any steering wheel patient, but the new Defender felt so pleasant and flattering to me in every way, that I forgot its agricultural predecessor in a moment.

The latest PHEV version that landed with us for testing reawakened exactly the same feelings.

I've argued before that the Defender is the most impressive tool in JLR's portfolio and I still stand by those words.

The appearance above all, distills the extensive history in a magical way.

Purposeful one moment, impressive the next and completely modern from every angle.

It is clear to the viewer that it is no longer like a field, and on the other hand it looks much more impressive than any of them.

This design wisdom also slides into the interior.

There are quite a few retro style cabins scattered throughout the price levels of the automotive industry.

But the Defender's is a work of art.

A craft of thought that weaves in it the same structural and visual strength, first-class materials, technological wealth to an extent and useful solutions for the most part.

He doesn't for a moment try to shout "I'm premium" but proves it in every corner.

The reason why we have again gathered around this impressive machine, resting, among other things, under the hood.

Yes, all those who want to move around the city without direct pollutant emissions, must today in the name of fashion, have a new hybrid unit.

Combination of a gasoline engine with four cylinders with a volume of 2.0 L and an electric motor.

This hybrid drive system provides a combined output of 404 hp.

Absolutely handsome.

It must be noted that the main purpose of the electric addition is to offer movement on the power of electricity.

In Land Rover they talk about up to 43 km, in our test it was a little less than 30 km.

This means that if you live in Ramesh and work in Tel Aviv, let's say, and have a charging station, you will not see the gas station until further notice.

Personally, I'm a little less interested in it.

Certainly when there is so much other good to focus on here.

The fuel consumption in the DA test, without visiting charging stations, was a pleasant 7.6 km per liter.

Mixing a home charging station in this matter will change the picture completely as mentioned.

It is not a light vehicle.

because of an exam.

But it is very easy to forget that.

With every kilometer this giant discovers how lovable he is.

With all the power available (and it depends as mentioned) leaving the place is swinging a heavy weight for a distance, one that never ends.

About 5.6 seconds from a standstill to 100 km/h without tire screeching, no slight idling, just strong and uniform speed accumulation.

Just a small example.

The defender really pushes hard up to the speed of the accepted fine in Israel.

We'll leave it at that.

If there is anything more surprising it is the behavior of this vehicle.

The comfort is excellent, so is the cruising with a small complaint of wind noise at high speed.

If we return to the behavior, we will be surprised, once again, by the precision of the steering wheel, by the right reactions to every movement of the right leg, by the willingness to swallow fast, safe and fun kilometers.

I do not find it necessary to list here all the generous fittings.

At this price you wouldn't expect anything else.

And to list again the acts of heroism of this generation in every area, there is really no reason.

Or maybe yes?

Despite the electrical addition they installed here, the Defender maintains its good power transmission properties.

There is a low gear here, locks and the ability to overcome water obstacles up to a height of 90 cm.

Controlling the various driving modes and terrain conditions is easy as usual.

This computerized crime ship knows the job well.

Apropos - the vehicle is very well equipped as mentioned and among other things it rides on 20 inch rims.

The effect of these is usually negative in standard vehicles but for this Defender with its wonderful NVH, it didn't really bother.

This brings me to the last line in my impression of this version.

First of all, the Defender in this version is also an extraordinary opener of horizons.

We should also talk about another update - the extended warranty that is now offered here to the company's customers.

Five years or 150,000 km is an important card in the local market and the British definitely needed it.
