2 / 12The Eibsee is probably one of the most famous in Bavaria and even all of Germany.

The lake in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district shimmers in various shades of blue and turquoise.

But day-trippers can do more than just laze around on the beaches: If you want to do some sport, you can rent a stand-up paddle or a boat.

The approximately two-hour tour (Eibsee circular route) is also considered one of the most beautiful walking trails in all of Bavaria.

3 / 12Sports fans can also work out at Tegernsee, for example with stand-up paddling.

The lake is considered one of the cleanest in Europe, as stated on the Tegernsee website.

There are hiking trails, Nordic walking trails, cross-country ski trails and numerous kilometers of slopes in the area.

4 / 12The view over Lake Walchensee.

It was mentioned as early as 763, but only as a geographical location and without a name.

The first evidence exists in the 11th century, initially as Walhense, later as Walchensee and Wallersee.

The name is explained as “the lake where Romans lived,” as it says on the lake website.

Efforts to dig for ores led to the construction of the first Kesselbergstrasse in 1492. Johan Wolfgang von Goethe also used this road several times for his trips to Italy.

He always rested at Lake Walchen. Because of its turquoise color, it is considered one of the most beautiful German lakes and is sometimes referred to as the “Bavarian Caribbean”.

There are many natural bathing areas at Lake Walchensee.

6 / 12The Königssee also shines in Caribbean colors, here with a view of the pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä.

You can cross it with a ferry and, for example, hike to Obersee.

It is around 30 kilometers from Munich.

8 / 12Lake Chiemsee is also known as the “Bavarian Sea” and attracts with Alpine views, sport and culture.

According to the website there are 1000 photo opportunities.

Swimming, renting a boat, sailing, surfing, cycling and walking are also possible.

10 / 12A sunrise at Hintersee.

“If you are looking for the ideal image of a romantic mountain lake, you will find it realized in the Hintersee in Ramsau.

Surrounded by steep peaks and embedded in the legendary enchanted forest, the idyllic Hintersee in the Bavarian mountaineering village of Ramsau offers everything your heart desires: crystal-clear and emerald-green water, dark, mysterious forests, wildly tumbled rocks, overgrown with thick moss and overgrown with bizarre trees “, says the website berchtgesgaden.de/hintersee.

12 / 12The Schrecksee is located in the Allgäu Alps.

“Embedded in a wildly romantic high valley, framed by gray mountain peaks and a small, wooded island in the middle of the lake – the Schrecksee was rightly voted the most beautiful mountain lake in the Alps in 2016,” writes komoot.de about the idyllic lake.
