The Mayor of Beit Shemesh, Aliza Bloch, paid tribute to him: "Shimon, a fighter in the 924th Engineering Battalion, insisted on enlisting in the reserves and was supposed to be released on Monday, fell in battle in the southern Gaza Strip in defense of the people and the country."
