The IDF spokesman allowed publication this morning (Sunday) that Major General Shimon Yehoshua Assolin, 24 years old from Beit Shemesh, was killed in an encounter with terrorists in the southern Gaza Strip.
Shimon was a fighter in the 924th Engineering Battalion of the Harel Brigade.
His family has been notified.
The army said: "The IDF shares in the family's grief and will continue to accompany it."
The mayor of Beit Shemesh, Dr. Aliza Bloch, said following the announcement of Shimon's death: "Dear Asoulin family, Rabbi Rafi and Tahila. The heart refuses to believe.
