Seine-Saint-Denis: death of a 5-year-old boy, his mother in police custody

“When they saw his body covered in bruises, they called the police,” explained a source close to the case.


A 36-year-old woman was taken into police custody after the death of her 5-year-old son in their home in Noisy-le-Grand on Saturday evening, AFP learned from a police source and the Bobigny prosecutor's office on Sunday.

The spouse is also wanted by investigators, these sources said.

Around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, firefighters intervened at the family home for a 5-year-old child who

“fell in the bathtub

,” according to his mother, a police source said.

“When they saw his body covered in bruises, they called the police

,” the source continued.

An hour after emergency services intervened, the boy in cardiorespiratory arrest died.

The investigation into the murder of a minor under the age of fifteen was entrusted to the Paris minor protection brigade, the prosecutor's office said.

Two other children, born in 2013 and 2016 and present at the home, were temporarily placed.

Investigators are also looking into the background in this family which had been the subject of educational monitoring, a child protection measure which can be offered to parents facing difficulties.
