The impact of the adjustment: new survey with two very strong alerts for Javier Milei

2024-02-04T14:40:38.310Z

Highlights: A new national survey raises two strong alerts for the libertarian management. The adjustment is affecting not only the bulk of the population, but also its most basic consumption. When asked about the current situation, the figures are dark red: 78% say that it is "worse" or "just as bad" than last year. The other topic in which Milei fails is that of economic expectations. Although there are slightly more pessimists than optimists (43.4%), the latter grew significantly with the change in management.

It is a study by the consulting firm RDT. It shows how the price increase is hitting.

Beyond the picketing protests and the demonstrations (some violent) at the door of Congress during the treatment of the Omnibus Law, a

level of demand in line with the adjustment

already implemented by

Javier 's government

is not yet perceived

in public opinion.

Milei

.

This particularity, admitted to

Clarín

by official sources, undoubtedly contains good news for the ruling party, since it would demonstrate that the

demand for change

, reflected in 55% and a bit of the ballot,

still enjoys a certain health

.

But as this newspaper already reported,

the big question is how long

this support will persist for measures that, for the most part, involve a

hit to the pocketbook

.

A

new national survey

that

Clarín

accessed this weekend raises

two strong alerts

for the libertarian management.

  • On the one hand, it would demonstrate that the

    adjustment

, beyond the slogan of caste, is affecting not only the

    bulk of the population

    , but also its

    most basic consumption

    .

  • And, on the other hand, it puts

    relatively short deadlines

    on that

    honeymoon

that the new management is enjoying today.

The study is from

Reale Dallatorre Consultores (RDT)

, a firm with origins in Mendoza and a pioneer in measurements on social networks.

Between January 27 and 30, a survey of

2,610 cases

was carried out , with +/- 2.5% margin of error.

Management evaluation, current situation and expectations

At the start of the study, there are

two parameters

that all surveys usually ask and

they give Milei quite a good rating

, especially when compared to Alberto Fernández's latest numbers.

When asked about the approval of the

discharge

, despite the strong adjustment measures, the libertarian ends up with a balance in favor:

47.2% approve and 40.9% disapprove

.

The rest "don't know."

The other topic in which

Milei fails

is that of

economic expectations

.

Although there are slightly more

pessimists (45.2%)

than

optimists (43.4%)

, the latter grew significantly with the change in management.

A year ago, pessimists reached 82%.

When asked about the current situation, the figures are dark red:

78% say that it is "worse" or "just as bad" than last year

.

Libertarian consolation: the new management has not yet reached two months.

The impact of adjustment

In the second part of the survey,

the panorama becomes more complex for Milei

and this is where the alerts appear.

"Who do you consider to be the most harmed by the current adjustment?"

, says the study.

And "the people" take 72%, against just 10.6% of the "corporate caste" and 7.7% of the "political caste."

That is to say,

despite the campaign promises

that the "caste" would bear the brunt, more than 7 out of 10 assure that the most harmed are the common people.

"Due to the current economic situation, in which area did you make the biggest adjustment?"

, he immediately asks himself.

And the responses are alarming.

40.1% say they spend less on "food in general."

That is, the cut is already affecting the most basic consumption.

For this reason, the following table does not attract attention, in which a sort of "adjustment tolerance index" is made:

"Due to your economic situation, how long could you wait for Milei's economic plan to start giving results? positive?"

, they question.

28% respond that "nothing", that they "no longer have room"

to wait for good news.

It could be assumed that a part of the anti-Milei crack occurs there.

People who may not be so economically drowned, but who reject everything that comes from the libertarian world.

However,

the rest of the numbers are also worrying

:

13.5%

say they can wait

"up to 3 months"

and

16.5%

,

"up to 6 months

. "

Only 33% could wait "one year" or "more than a year."

If the political debate is cleared up, furthermore,

the social figures are quite in line with this demand for rapid responses

: above 40% poverty and more than 10% indigence.

A reality where the responsibility clearly lies with previous governments, but which Milei has deepened for now.
