But I have self-confident parents and teachers.

The general renovation of the Tutzing high school is being prepared, but will not begin immediately.

A report on the further timetable and preliminary measures was heard in the district council's school committee on Thursday.

Tutzing

– The ravages of time are gnawing at the Tutzing high school.

A general renovation, which the Starnberg district initially postponed in 2020 when it took over responsibility for the material costs from the municipality of Tutzing, is in preparation.

But some measures can no longer wait.

At the end of 2022, the school management and parents' council presented the district office with a list of measures deemed necessary.

The district council committees decided in March 2023 to implement part of it.

Now district treasurer Stefan Pilgram reported to the school committee what has already happened, what should happen before the general renovation and what will have to wait until then.

The gym is a cause for concern.

The roof is leaking, as a result the floor is bubbling, edges are sticking up and the substructure is brittle.

The ground always gets wet as long as the roof is not tight, explained Pilgram.

An interim solution is being sought, balancing security and economic proportionality.

The district no longer wants to invest a lot of money in the hall from the 1970s, which “will definitely no longer be there after the general renovation.”

The roof sealing on the south building was completed.

“But the water is already looking for new paths,” said Pilgram.

To improve heat protection in the south building, sun protection films would be installed during the Easter holidays.

The interim digitalization of the south building with new cables and devices should be completed for ten classrooms by Carnival and for 13 additional rooms by the end of September.

The parents had requested that toilets be renovated in the north building.

Repairs to toilet rooms were carried out as part of building maintenance, explained Pilgram.

Major measures for the listed Kalle Villa with the teachers' room will only be undertaken once the overall concept for the general renovation is in place.

There was a first workshop last week, and the architects also conducted interviews with individual students about their needs.

After further workshops, the space program, rough cost estimate and planning horizon should be available by autumn 2024.

At the same time, all specialist planners should be found by the middle of the year and a planning team should be formed.

A master plan will be drawn up starting in the winter, and building permits will be applied for in mid-2025.

Two to three years are scheduled for tendering and carrying out construction work.

After Pilgram's report, some district councilors played through debates that are now likely to follow.

Anton Maier (Greens), for example, asked how the architectural office commissioned with the overall planning could be prevented from selecting very high-priced materials, as was the case with the renovation of the Grünwald high school, which the office also supervised.

Pilgram replied that he had already prepared the architects that costs would be a difficult issue.

Eva-Maria Klinger (CSU) demanded: “We should fix something here early on and not put the district council in trouble later.

I can already hear colleagues saying that our children must be worth it to us once the cost estimates are available.”

Headmaster Andreas Thalmaier said: “I’m not a Grünwalder, I’m a Swabian.” But the renovation will be a razor’s edge ride.

On the one hand, good education costs money.

On the other hand, Dr.

Otto Seydel from the Institute for School Development, who is supposed to create the educational space concept, should proceed with a sense of proportion.

“But I also have self-confident parents and teachers.”

For the years 2024 to 2027, the district has earmarked 7.5 million euros for expansion, expansion and conversion work.

According to District Administrator Stefan Frey, one million euros was spent on this in 2023.

The expenditure on digitization amounts to 800,000 euros for 2023 and 2024.
