The IDF and the Ministry of Defense have begun arming the standby units in approximately 70 localities in the Gaza Strip - this is according to a statement issued this morning (Sunday) by the army. The distribution of weapons to the standby units is being done following sharp criticism that was voiced after the massacre on October 7, during which the standby units were found to be insufficiently equipped , which left the settlements without protection.
According to the IDF announcement, the distribution of weapons to the defense forces of the settlements in the Otef is part of the "Return of the Spirit" program to strengthen the standby units and the settlements at the borders, and the first phase has ended these days.
The distribution of weapons is done after the massacre on October 7th, the standby classes were not sufficiently equipped.

As part of the program, the standby classes received equipment including, among other things, weapons, ceramic vests, uniforms, shoes and helmets that were purchased and tested to the highest standards.
In the coming weeks, additional equipment will be provided, which will include weapons, additional medical and logistical equipment.
This coincides with the completion of the distribution of equipment to additional standby classes in the Northern Command.
Along with the procurement of the equipment and its distribution, the training of the settlement defense forces is carried out, which has continued more intensively since the beginning of the fighting, and which will be expanded in the future, for the benefit of strengthening the security of the residents.
