Tractors moved closer to the gates of Rome as farmer protests against national and European policies, cheap imports, high costs and low agricultural prices continued in Italy and Europe on Sunday.
"Tomorrow evening the date of the announced protest in Rome will be announced," said the leader of the revolt, Danilo Calvani.
"There will be a first protest, he said, in which only farmers and no vehicles are expected, followed by a second one in which tractors will invade the streets of the capital as their European counterparts did in Brussels last week.
Meanwhile over 500 tractors paraded in Pavia on Sunday.
"We are on their side, they are protesting against Europe, not against the government," said Tourism Minister Daniela Santanché.
From Orte, less than 80km north of Rome by road, the farmers called on showman Amadeus, presenter and organizer of this week's Sanremo Song Festival, to host them at the annual jamboree "to explain the reasons for our protests".
