In Phoenix, the Norman Lykes House

On the mountainside.

Eric Martin

It is one of the last projects of the most famous American architect of the last century, Frank Lloyd Wright.

Completed in 1959, a few months before his death at the age of 91, the Norman Lykes is a design enthusiast's dream home.

Built on the mountainside, on the heights of Phoenix, it looks like a UFO in this environment of ultra-contemporary villas with rigid lines.

Its rampart-style walls, made of “desert pink” concrete, house two floors, three bedrooms and a completely unique crescent-shaped swimming pool.

In the main living room of this circular liner house, the play of perspectives draws the eye towards the horizon.

It's no coincidence that the Americans invented the cinemascope...

At the gates of Saguaro National Park, the Time Capsule

Atypical accommodation.

Eric Martin

The charm of this atypical accommodation is largely due to its host, Olivier Dubois-Cherrier.

Born in the Caribbean, this French artist settled in Miami ten years ago, before purchasing this large plot of land at the gates of Saguaro National Park, named after the large cactus that covers it.

A crooner's look and a sharp tongue, he claims to belong to Land art, a contemporary art movement that appeared in the United States at the end of the 1960s, considering natural materials as the starting point for all work.

Between his Klein blue painted trees and his open-air sculptures, he built this capsule without curtains or shutters, to live to the rhythm of the sun.

70s decoration in orange-yellow shades.

Magical at a time when the sun caresses the horizon with its golden reflections.

The price ?

From €65 per night for 2 travelers.

On the same land, a few meters from the Time Capsule, the host offers the rental of a vintage aluminum caravan, Groovy Glamper.

In Tucson, the Historic Ball-Paylore House

A house that meets the environmental constraints of the desert.

Eric Martin

In 1952, academics Phyllis Ball and Patrica Paylore asked architect Arthur T. Brown, a pioneer in solar design, to design a house that would meet the environmental constraints of the Sonoran Desert.

The result: a hexagonal masterpiece considered one of the most significant buildings of modern architecture in Arizona.

Located in the heart of the historic Catalina Vista district, the residence is organized around the central fireplace, with rooms arranged like the petals of a flower.

Although a large part of the original furniture by George Nelson for Herman Miller has been preserved, contemporary equipment (Tuft and Needle mattresses, connected speakers, etc.) has been installed in the two bedrooms.

To cross the ages while telling yourself that it was better before.

The price ?

From €228 per night for 4 travelers.

Minimum of 2 nights required.

In Cameron, a hogan by the river

Robinson's life in this hogan.

Airbnb

No running water, no electricity, no cellular network, no toilets.

If you've been wanting to live the Robinson life, this accommodation along the Little Colorado River is sure to satisfy your adventure cravings.

But above all, it will be the occasion for a great breeding ground of culture.

45 kilometers from the Grand Canyon, this traditional earth dwelling is established on the Navajo Nation reservation, a semi-autonomous territory of 71,000 km2, stretching between northeastern Arizona and southern Utah. and northwestern New Mexico.

Even today, the largest Native American community in the United States lives in this area.

Spend a night in this "hogan", on the sheep camp of your host's family, and you may have the chance to attend (while standing apart!) blessings or ceremonies aimed at to maintain harmony with Mother Earth.

Keep your eyes peeled, coyotes, antelopes and desert reptiles are never far away.

The price ?

From €159 per night for 2 travelers.
