Two octogenarians were discovered dead at their home in Saint-Raphaël (Var), we learned this Sunday from the Draguignan public prosecutor's office, which raises the hypothesis of "feminicide" followed by suicide.
“It appears according to the first elements of the investigation which will be confirmed that the husband was able to kill his seriously ill and bedridden wife before turning the murder weapon, a shotgun, on his person,”
specifies Pierre Couttenier, public prosecutor of Draguignan in a press release.
An ongoing investigation
The bodies were discovered by a family member who went to their home.
The technical and scientific police findings are in progress, adds the prosecutor who entrusted the flagrant investigation to the Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël police station and ordered an autopsy.
A “feminicide” occurs on average every three days in France.
In 2022, 118 women were killed by their spouse or ex-spouse, according to a report from the Ministry of the Interior.
