Parisians no longer want to see SUVs on their streets.
Residents of the capital spoke out this Sunday in favor of a new measure aimed at tripling the parking rate for “heavy, polluting and bulky” vehicles.
The “for” won
54% (provisional results).
However, the implementation of this new measure is not imminent.
Parisian elected officials must first debate it next May during the Paris Council.
If the rate increase is adopted, it will still take several months for the City to implement it.

In the capital, the weekend was punctuated by pro and anti SUV campaigns.
The environmental activists had not skimped on the poster-pasting operations and the “La Rue est à nous” coalition had flooded the mailboxes of residents of the 12th arrondissement with a letter encouraging them to post the bulletin “for a specific rate” in the ballot box.
At the same time, anger spread to the other camp of motorists, seeing in this citizen vote a new crusade “against cars”.
Aiming only at “visitor” vehicles, the surcharge will not concern Parisians who benefit from a resident rate.
