There are just over two years left, but the historical framework that the
2026 World Cup
will have , being the first with
three organizing countries
and
48 participants
, began this Sunday to reveal some certainties.
The calendar released by the president of FIFA,
Gianni Infantino
, distributed the
104 matches
, which is a record for this competition that paralyzes the world every four years.
The
Azteca stadium
in the Federal District will host the
inaugural match
with the Mexican National Team as the protagonist on June 11, while
the final will be in New Jersey
, which has the spectacular Met Life Stadium with capacity for
82,500 spectators
.
The legendary Mexican venue is the first stadium in history to host three different World Cups, after those of 1970 and 1986, so it will host the inaugural match for the third time.
El Tri will play that duel, play their second game of the group stage in Guadalajara on June 18 and return to the country's capital to face their third match on June 24.
