He even shaved his beard to do this: Green MP Johannes Becher was at the “Fastnacht in Franconia” for the first time.
He talks about his debut as “Ken” in the interview.
District
- It is the television carnival spectacle par excellence: 3.5 million people watched the traditional “Fastnacht in Franconia” on Friday evening.
For the first time, Green Party member of the state parliament Johannes Becher was not among the spectators, but right in the middle of the ceremonial meeting in Veitshöchheim.
In the interview he talks about his debut alongside “Barbie” Katharina Schulze, the political message of his pink suit and why he didn’t think twice about shaving his beard.
Mr. Becher, how was your premiere at the Franconian carnival?
The premiere was a success, it was incredibly fun.
There were also a lot of really good performances, I laughed out loud.
I'm a big carnival fan anyway, so it wasn't an overcoming, but rather a privilege to be there.
A change in type was necessary for your costume: Barbie's “Ken” is clean-shaven, you actually have a beard.
How hard was it to put the razor on?
I was born in Upper Franconia and came to Upper Bavaria as a child.
Being part of the “Fastnacht in Franconia” was actually a childhood dream.
In my family, this is the television event par excellence; all relatives tune in.
So it was clear from the start that I would show full physical effort (

).
Why did you and Katharina Schulze choose this disguise?
“Barbie” is the most-watched film of last year.
It addresses feminism and equality for beginners.
In the end, he plays with gender roles and conveys the clear message throughout: Things are better together than against each other.
That is also what we Greens stand for – for real equality in society.
However, it's not that surprising this year that there are several Barbies and Kens out and about at Carnival.
The color pink also dominated among our colleagues from the SPD.
Yes, I actually expected that others would come up with this idea too.
Therefore the implementation has to be very good.
I have the utmost respect for the makeup artist, who did a truly sensational job - and it only took an hour to do it.
My face really looked like it was made of plastic, I've never had such a narrow nose (laughs).

So was your carnival-experienced family happy with your debut?
Absolutely.
They were also surprised by my costume, because of course they didn't know anything either.
So some people had to look two or three times to see if it was me.
