According to a media report, Audi is planning to restructure its production network.

This could threaten the demise of a European plant.

Ingolstadt - Audi apparently wants to rebuild its global production network.

This emerges from a report in the industry newspaper

Automobilwoche

.

Accordingly, the premium manufacturer is working on a corresponding plan together with the parent company Volkswagen.

Details will be announced in the spring.

Audi has to reduce capacities: Q4 e-tron overflow production in the Brussels factory is not coming

The reason for the restructuring is the weak demand for electric car models based on the MEB modular system.

This could particularly affect the Audi factory in Brussels.

Overflow production of the Q4 e-tron was stopped there last year, which was actually intended to relieve production in Zwickau.

Audi has invested several million euros in the corresponding conversion of the plant.

Only the Q8 e-tron and the Q8 e-tron Sportback are produced in Brussels.

Without the Q4 e-tron, which is currently only being built in Zwickau, the plant is threatened with closure.

Audi has to reduce capacities: Does Brussels also have to give up Q8 e-tron production?

But things could get even worse for Brussels.

According to

Automobilwoche

, Audi has plans to relocate production of the Q8 e-tron to Mexico and China.

In Mexico, the model could even be built at the VW Puebla plant.

Alternatively, Audi's own factory in San José Chiapa would be available.

In China, the Audi plant in Changchun is under discussion.

If Brussels does not receive an alternative model for production, the entire location is at risk.

According to information from

Automobilwoche

, a solution is desperately being sought to preserve the plant.

Audi has to reduce capacities: subsequent occupancy for Brussels is being discussed

However, according to Handelsblatt

, the Brussels plant has been

on the red list for a long time because it is one of the smaller ones and is located in the middle of the city.

But Audi weighs it down.

“The Brussels location is currently well utilized.

Production of the Audi Q8 e-tron and the Q8 e-tron Sportback began there in December 2022.

Further capacity utilization for Brussels is currently being examined,” said the manufacturer when asked by Reuters.

“We cannot yet confirm a specific model for Mexico.”
