In Germany, people sit for around nine hours a day on weekdays.
This emerges from a survey by the German Health Insurance (DKV) from 2023.
Compared to the last evaluation (2021), sitting time has increased by half an hour per day.
It is not healthy for the body to sit a lot.

Criteria for seat cushions
Many people have no control over the fact that they have to sit at work or on other occasions.
However, it is possible to behave more gently.
This is possible, among other things, if ergonomic desk chairs can be used.
If you don't have these available, you can also use seat cushions to change your posture when sitting.
Reducing daily sitting time through exercise significantly reduces the risk of death.
Ingo Froböse, professor at the German Sport University Cologne, told DKV
Anyone who sits a lot and adopts the wrong posture usually notices it in their backs.

How to sit correctly
The Techniker Krankenkasse (TK) recommends that you pay attention to frequent changes in posture when sitting.
Even if you adopt a healthy basic position, it can become a one-sided burden if you stay that way for a long time.
You should also pay attention to the following points:
Reclined posture, the chair should have a “walking” backrest
When sitting forward, your arms should be supported on the desk
In general, you should shift your weight sometimes to the left and sometimes to the right side of the buttock, the health insurance company informs.
It is also important for your body that you stretch, move or stand up.
This stimulates the metabolism of the intervertebral discs and prevents wear and tear.
You should also generally take short breaks in movement while working - feel free to shake out your arms and legs.
Criteria for seat cushions
It makes sense to have a non-slip base so that your pillow stays in place.
You should also be able to remove and wash the cover.
The pillow itself is usually made of memory foam because it conforms to the contours of your body.
Soft edges of the pillow prevent blood from congesting in the legs, informs the Desk-Checker portal.
