The planned deployment of the British aircraft carrier “HMS Queen Elizabeth” in an extensive NATO maneuver will not take place.
London – The largest NATO maneuver since the end of the Cold War is called “Steadfast Defender”, which translates as “Steadfast Defender”.
Around 90,000 soldiers are expected to take part in this large-scale exercise by the end of May.
However, due to a technical defect, the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth will not be able to take part in the exercise, which exposes Norway as a weak point compared to Putin's Russia.
Major NATO maneuvers in Russia's front yard: exit of HMS Queen Elizabeth stopped
The Royal Navy announced on Sunday (February 4) that the departure of the aircraft carrier before the major NATO exercise was stopped at the last second.
According to Vice Admiral Andrew Burns, quoted by Britain's PA news agency, "During routine pre-departure checks yesterday, a problem was identified with a clutch on the starboard propeller shaft of HMS Queen Elizabeth.
Therefore, the ship will not leave on Sunday and will therefore not take part in the major NATO exercise in which Russia has already identified a plan.
Before major NATO maneuvers near Russia: Royal Navy deploys sister ship for aircraft carrier
Instead, the sister ship “HMS Prince of Wales” is now scheduled to take part in the NATO maneuvers near Russia after the Navy announced on Friday that the “Queen Elizabeth” would leave on Sunday.
Although the two aircraft carriers have only recently become operational, this is already the second significant failure.
About a year and a half ago, the “Prince of Wales” was forced to abort its voyage from Great Britain to joint exercises with the US and Canadian navies due to a defect in the propeller shaft shortly after takeoff near the Isle of Wight in southern England.
However, a representative from the London Ministry of Defense said there was no connection between the incidents.

According to information from the
German Press Agency,
the “Steadfast Defender” maneuver represents a scenario in which a Russian attack on allied territory triggers the so-called alliance case according to Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.
Russia has already reacted to the announcement of the major NATO exercise and threatened tragic consequences.
Article 5, for its part, defines mutual support within the alliance and stipulates that an armed attack on one or more allies is considered an attack on all.
