Police Chief Michael Tegethoff expressed his gratitude to emergency services and citizens for their active support in the search for two-year-old Georg G.

In order to find the boy safely again, “everything humanly possible was done with great commitment and tireless effort.” It is an expression of the excellent interaction between everyone involved, which shows the region’s willingness to help and performance.

Two-year-old Georg G. found again: large-scale operation successfully completed

+++ 2:18 p.m.:

The missing two-year-old was fortunately found safe and sound on the night of Monday (February 5th).

New details should shed some light on the matter.

Son Georg G. wanted to watch his father work in the forest on Sunday afternoon (February 4th).

However, in an unobserved moment, the two-year-old begins his independent hike.

This finally led the boy to the L3253 country road between Sterkelshausen and the Beenhausen junction.

According to the police, emergency services found him there, drenched and slightly hypothermic, almost asleep.

The boy was medically examined on site, but there was no reason for a direct visit to the hospital.

Instead, the boy was immediately handed over to the care of his parents.

“He talked a lot, was well and happy,” says police spokeswoman Esther Jaekel.

Patrick Bug from the East Hesse police said the place where the disappearance and the place where it was found were two kilometers apart.

The search forces combed the area for a total of four kilometers - but it is unclear which route the little one took and how many kilometers he covered on Sunday evening (February 4th).

The reason for the two-year-old's disappearance is also not clear.

The police suspect it's pure adventurousness.

“The parents were of course extremely happy when they were able to hold the child in their arms again and were relieved that it turned out well,” said Bug.

Missing two-year-old from Alheim: large-scale search operation

Countless emergency services from the East Hesse and North Hesse police as well as an aviation squadron, the fire department from Bebra-Rothenburg and various aid organizations from the district (e.g. Johanniter) were involved in the search operation.

With the help of several dog teams, tracks were picked up in the forest.

Divers searched the waters for the whereabouts of the boy and drones were also used to search for heat sources using infrared cameras.

The search operation was based on various guiding hypotheses as to where the boy could have gone.

Police press spokesman Bug said that the coordination of operations was the responsibility of the district's security forces, who are supposed to combine the existing forces in such large-scale operations.

The mayor of Alheim, Andreas Brethauer, also supported the emergency services.

He was visibly relieved about Georg G's reappearance. “Of course, that took a load off my mind.

"I've actually already mentally prepared myself for the fact that we're going to spend the whole night here killing each other."

The boy's temporary disappearance didn't just hit a personal nerve with the parents: "I recently became a father myself, so of course all sorts of things go through your head - that it could have been your own child," says the mayor the boy arrived safely back with his family.

The police did not yet have an explanation as to how the two-year-old was able to cover the distance.
