A pigeon has been detained in India on suspicion of espionage.
“Chinese characters” put the bird “imprisoned.”
Mumbai – The story sounds wild.
A pigeon who was allegedly on a spying mission for China in India was held in police custody for eight months.
An illegible message on the wing landed the bird behind bars.
Taube in police custody for months under suspicion of espionage
Police discovered the pigeon in a Mumbai port with "Chinese characters" on its wings, the
Times of India newspaper reported.
The animal was “arrested” on suspicion of espionage and held in a veterinary clinic for the duration of the investigation.
The bird had been housed in an individual cage.
“The police have opened a case of suspected espionage against the pigeon.
But after the investigation ended, the lawsuit was dropped,” the newspaper said.
It is said to have been a stray racing pigeon from Taiwan and not a spy bird.
The carrier pigeon probably lost its way and landed in Mumbai, writes
The New Indian Express.
India releases pigeon after eight months
Although the mistake was quickly discovered, the pigeon remained locked in the cage for months.
The alleged “China spy” had simply been forgotten.
The animal protection organization Peta recently drew attention to the case.

Pigeons under suspicion of espionage
It is not the first suspected case of this kind in India.
Officials found a pigeon with a threatening message for Prime Minister Narendra Modi near the border with Pakistan in 2016.
Another pigeon was picked up in 2010 with a ring around its foot and a Pakistani phone number and address.
Pigeons have a bad reputation.
However, the birds have a special talent and can take on difficult tasks in diagnosing cancer.
