Breakthrough in the investigation into the death of Carlo Gatti, the 89-year-old who was found dead yesterday morning in his home in the Ruino hamlet of the Colli Verdi municipality, in the province of Pavia.
The carabinieri arrested Liliana Barone, 45 years old, the pensioner's carer, who had already been questioned yesterday.
The woman, the police explain in a note, "is seriously suspected of having committed the crime of murder".
The 45-year-old, ex-wife of the victim's nephew, had been taken to the barracks in Voghera (Pavia) already yesterday morning, shortly after the body of the elderly man with a wound to the back of the neck was found in the bedroom, and had been interrogated for several hours .
"Liliana Barone, in a state of confusion - explain the carabinieri - told the paramedics that she had caused Gatti's death, without explaining the methods or reasons".
The soldiers of the Pavia Investigation Unit carried out the investigations on site.
The woman, who did not answer the prosecutor's questions, was taken to prison in Vigevano.
