The intersection on Hindenburgstrasse is not a showcase location in Bad Tölz.
The asphalt desert in the center is now to be fundamentally redesigned.
Bad Tölz – Truly not a showcase place in Bad Tölz: This refers to the intersection of Hindenburgstrasse with Nockhergasse-Wachterstrasse as well as Bairawieserstrasse and Mühlgasse.

Redesign of the Hindenburgstrasse intersection in Bad Tölz: the city center should be safer and visually more appealing
The project is ambitious, as was shown at the recent on-site visit.
Mayor Ingo Mehner invited residents, the city council and experts from the administration.
Mehner emphasized that there is no finished plan yet.
So far there has been a call for tenders to award the planning contract to a specialist office.
The aim of the well-attended meeting was to invite those interested to “collect ideas” on how the hub in the center could be redesigned to be better, safer and more visually appealing.
Mind you, this was only about the traffic area, but not the architectural sins on the edge, such as the telecommunications exchange with its large advertising boards.
A key term at the appointment: “Quality of stay”.
Mehner saw a need for action in many respects, but only made one fixed requirement: The busy, wide and dangerous intersection for pedestrians - many students have to cross the street - with traffic lights and wide turning lanes should be replaced by a roundabout with crossing aids.
Everyone present then had the opportunity to present their ideas or write them down using the cards given out by Birte Otterbach.
Redesign of the Hindenburgstrasse intersection in Bad Tölz: Beautify Ellbach and better integrate it into the cityscape
On behalf of the historical association, Claus Janßen emphasized the special significance of this location and expressed the wish to transform the Ellbach, which rushes past in an ugly concrete corset with a steep gradient, into an attractive urban development element.
“It was built in the 12th century as an artificial diversion canal from the Rehgraben, once powered numerous mills and thus created the conditions for the Tölz market to emerge here,” he emphasized.

With reference to similar initiatives in other old towns such as Weilheim, Janßen had the idea of building a mill wheel based on historical models for sustainable electricity generation here in the area of the former “hammer forge”.

Redesign of the Hindenburgstrasse intersection in Bad Tölz: More trees, wider cycle paths and sidewalks desired for the Tölz city center
Further contributions to the discussion and ideas: widening the sidewalks, which are sometimes far too narrow, and narrowing the lanes with speed limits as well as more safety for cyclists (there was also the suggestion that car posers were always on the move in this area).
Also: more trees, more greenery and more seating.
A north-side access to the post office area (planned shopping market with underground parking) to reduce traffic from the direction of Marktstrasse.
It was also suggested that Bairawieserstrasse be designated as a one-way street and that the pedestrian zone be extended to the southernmost part of Hindenburgstrasse - with the option that the city bus no longer drives through upper Markstrasse but stops somewhere in the area of the telecommunications office.
Mehner expressly emphasized that some of these positions inevitably result in conflicting goals.
He only explicitly spoke out against the proposed installation of thresholds in the roadways because they would also be unacceptable for winter service.
Tölzer Bairawieserstrasse: asphalt desert number two”
Ulrike Bomhard pointed out a particular danger point at the narrow section of Bairawieserstrasse about a hundred meters above its confluence with Nockhergasse.
In addition, the subsequent “asphalt desert number two”: the greatly expanded and confusing widening towards the junction, should also be made more friendly.
