Uniforms, traditional jackets and baseball caps – there was a colorful picture at Kultur im Oberbräu on Friday.

For the first time in its history, the market town awarded badges of honor for special efforts.

Holzkirchen

– The true core and soul of the community are the many volunteers, emphasized Mayor Christoph Schmid (CSU) in his welcome.

The associations and organizations absorb what the state cannot do, the town hall boss continued.

This makes them the “supporting pillars of society”.

“And you make the difference in the quality of life in our community,” Schmid shouted to the around 170 invited guests at the volunteer reception last Friday.

Annika Walther (Public Relations Markt Holzkirchen) emphasized that the idea of organizing an event for volunteers had been in place for a long time.

There have also been efforts in the past to recognize special services to the community with a badge of honor.

After the corona pandemic prevented an earlier event, the organizers led by Barbara Brandlhuber, who is responsible for community maintenance in the community, simply combined the honor and reception this year.

“The response is good and the atmosphere is great,” summarized Brandlhuber.

Jury selects from twelve suggestions

To award the three recipients of the Badge of Honor, a jury had to select from a total of twelve suggestions submitted by citizens.

Not an easy task, as Mayor Schmid admitted.

In the end, the decision fell on Irene Stöberl (Hospice District), Sibylle König (Community Foundation) and Stefan and Jutta Dillig (Holzkirchen Helps).

Stöberl is the good soul of every company, praised laudator Franziska Gräfin von Drechsel, first chairwoman of the hospice group.

“And she is the pillar of our club,” she continued.

Stöberl herself was touched and announced that she was accepting the award on behalf of everyone working in the hospice association.

“That means I'm actually just borrowing them,” said Stöberl, which was met with a lot of sympathy.

The Dillig couple, who have been working in the association since Holzkirchen was founded, are always empathetic and heartfelt about the matter, said laudator Wolfgang Huber (SPD).

The team spirit is always important to them - “and yet we would be lost without them both.”

Jutta Dillig reported that the Holzkirchners' great willingness to donate provided motivation for their commitment.

And her husband Stefan talked about calls in which someone bursts into tears because a few hundred euros saved their life.

This always motivates him, said Dillig.

In the future, up to three people will be honored annually

The third prize winner, Sibylle König, has a similar idea.

“There is nothing more rewarding than providing help,” she said.

And this attitude was evident in König at a young age, as was evident from the speech by laudator Anke Bahr (Holzkirchen Community Foundation).

As a young girl, König cut holes in her clothes to show solidarity with a Turkish classmate.

She was laughed at because of her clothes with holes in her clothes.

Even today, it brings people together and thus helps to strengthen civil society, emphasized Bahr.

The fact that civil society in Holzkirchen consists of a broad base of people who are willing to work for the community in their free time was evident at the community's volunteer reception.

In the future, the event will take place annually and honor up to three people who make special contributions to the market town - regardless of whether this happens in uniform, traditional costume or baseball cap.
