Warning strike also affects Munich: flight cancellations and delays

The warning strikes begin on Wednesday (February 7th) from 4:00 a.m. and end on Thursday (February 8th) at 7:10 a.m.

In Munich, the strike begins with a meeting at the Airbräu in Munich Airport from 6:00 a.m.

Around 400 Lufthansa flights are planned for this day at Munich Airport.

The flight schedule includes around 200 departures to national and international destinations and around 200 arrivals.

It was initially unclear on Monday morning which of these flights could take place.

Lufthansa ground staff are to go on strike at several German airports: the Lufthansa locations in Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Berlin, Düsseldorf and Munich are affected.

“As all ground workers from maintenance to passenger and aircraft handling are called on a warning strike, there will likely be major flight cancellations and delays,” Verdi wrote in a statement on Monday morning.

The strike at airports is intended to increase the pressure for the next round of negotiations

The background to the warning strike is the current collective bargaining negotiations for the approximately 25,000 ground employees at Deutsche Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Cargo, among others.

With the warning strike, Verdi wants to increase the pressure on employers in the next round of negotiations.

“In the negotiations so far, a completely inadequate offer has been presented,” writes Verdi in a statement.

The union is demanding 12.5 percent more salary, at least 500 euros per month, for a term of twelve months and a group-wide inflation compensation bonus of 3,000 euros.

In addition, shift work should be upgraded.
