Israel's ambassador to Russia, Simona Halperin, was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry "due to public statements that distort Russian foreign policy and historical reality."
The ministry told the "Kommersant" newspaper that "they were especially angry that the Israeli ambassador speaks disrespectfully about the efforts that Russia is making to help free the abductees."
In Moscow, they added that particular anger was aroused by the claims according to which "the Holocaust is only the extermination of the Jewish people, while this goes against the UN resolution.
Whereas the statements about changes in the "state calendar" in Russia already touch on interference in internal affairs."
In an interview, Halperin said: "Unfortunately, International Holocaust Day is not officially marked in the Russian Federation's state calendar. I will talk about it with my Russian colleagues here. And it is not really clear to me why Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov dwarfs the significance of this monstrous event (that is, of the Holocaust ). Yes, many peoples suffered many losses, the Russian people paid in millions of people for the victory over the Nazis. And we remember this. However, the world has never known such total and planned extermination solely according to national identification. Only the Jewish people went through this, and not a single one. from mentioning it".
