The outdated and boring classroom has undergone a revolution - this is how the futuristic design affects the students of the 21st century

A learning space in flow/interaction

A lot has changed in the last 100 years from the entry of the computer into every home to the invention of the smartphone and now the artificial intelligence that is changing our world - the world has gone through many technological revolutions and the whole reality has changed beyond recognition.

Despite this, there is one place that is commonly thought of as the one that has not changed at all in the last 100 years and it is unsurprisingly - the classroom.

The blackboard, the writing implements and the teacher facing a class full of students have been the hallmark of schools around the world in recent decades.

But in recent years there has been surprising progress in the worlds of education - modern and innovative design, combined with advanced learning technologies are beginning to take the place of the old and boring classroom and introduce some of the capabilities of the modern era into schools.

Limor Harari, 'Gordon Innovative Pedagogy' college senior and responsible for the design of the innovative learning spaces says - "When I create a new learning space, I look at the flow in the space, at the place of the child and the teacher in the learning process.

For creating a space where the child will be active, a space where he will have a place to express his personal opinion and it will be proudly displayed in the space itself.

It is important to me that the initial thinking about the accuracy of the flow in the space is done in dialogue with the team of teachers who will teach in the space and that at the end of the process they will undergo professional development that will prepare them to teach in the innovative space combining a variety of strategies.

The design process does not only include the modular elements of the furniture, but the technologies that will be integrated into the space, the teaching methods that the space will allow the teacher - everything down to the smallest details - from the level of the furniture, through the color of the walls and the writing on them to the special technology that will be integrated into the space and make learning in it innovative and most importantly - sweeping the students to express an opinion, ask questions, and arouse curiosity."

The class of the future is here

The classroom of the future is a classroom that is designed in a groundbreaking way based on David Thornburg's book (2013) "From the Tribal Camp to Virtual Reality".

The book presents a model for learning environments that promote engagement and learning in the 21st century in a world of dynamic changes.

The classroom design is based on four metaphors that relate to the Genesis world and the way humans learn:

  • 1. The campfire representing learning from an expert;

  • 2. The watering hole which represents learning from peers in an informal way;

  • 3. The cave which represents personal learning through reflection and introspection

  • 4. The life that represents workshop learning from doing.

In accordance with Thornburg's model, the classroom of the future contains a central area for learning in plenary - the tribal campfire and team, informal (the water hole) and personal work areas (the cave).

The classroom includes rich technological equipment including iPads, a 3D printer, screens and stationary computers, and diverse gadgets that promote experiential and experiential learning.

A learning space in flow

This learning space includes a variety of modular learning resources that include furniture that allows for diverse teaching methods, diverse innovative and unique technological resources including: an interactive floor projector that allows learners to experience playful learning in motion.

An interactive projector on a table that allows you to play practice games in different areas of knowledge while standing, an interactive sandbox that includes 28 scenes for learning and enjoyment, including studying topography, natural phenomena: seasons, volcanoes and more.

Interactive touch screen and screens for collaborative work.

The teacher's role in the flow space is to challenge the learner, stimulate him to learn, define learning goals together, use a variety of learning strategies that enable project-based learning, problem solving, independent, team learning and direct the learner to achieve the goals he has set for himself.

The design of the learning spaces is the factor that allows children to develop academically and academically.

Thanks to elements in the learning space, the learners can improve, and the educators can adapt the space to each subject individually, and change the space so that it is exciting and inviting in every new lesson.
