A threatening stray has kept hunters busy in the western Ebersberg Forest.

Now the giant boar has been killed.

There is a sigh of relief.

Pöring/Frotzhofen

– There has been unrest among walkers and dog owners near Pöring (Worneding municipality) for the last few weeks: a giant boar was trotting through the forest outside the fenced-in game reserve in the Ebersberg Forest.

Now there is a sigh of relief: the wild boar, which weighed over 90 kilos, is dead.

That was a huge beast!

District forester Wolfgang Richter

“It was a huge beast,” says district forester Wolfgang Richter.

The hunters repeatedly shot wild boars that had escaped in the area - six of them since May 2023. The animals otherwise caused trouble for farmers because they rummaged through the fields and meadows.

The giant boar, which recently appeared again and again on wildlife cameras, was a different house number.

Presumably during a driven hunt in late autumn he escaped from the wildlife park into the so-called Auspark, the unfenced part of the Ebersberg Forest, by leaping over the game fence.

Even though the forester assumes that the animals avoid people, there was concern that there could be a confrontation with the massive animal.

After all, it was unclear where the magnificent specimen was hanging out between sightings.

Hunters sit for a long time: wild boars are great at hiding

So we breathed a sigh of relief when it was shot down at the end of last week.

The hunters took turns targeting the animal.

Munich's Sebastian Senge finally scored the goal.

“You have to be lucky,” explains the 43-year-old management consultant and passionate hunter.

After all, wild boars are hide-and-seek artists - and the Auspark West area between Pöring and Anzing offers a lot of space on over 700 hectares.

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

So Senge sat patiently and was lucky in the last light of day: “At some point he came,” says the hunter about the shot not far from Frotzhofen (municipality of Anzing).

The exceptional boar had been causing hunters headaches for a long time.

“You need some seating,” Senge sums up the hunt.

The animal ends up at the butcher

After breaking up and removing the internal organs at the hunting lodge, the giant boar now ends up at the butcher.

In the spirit of sustainable use of the animal, meat and sausage are made from it.

Hunter Sebastian Senge quotes a hunter's saying: “The hunt ends on the plate.”
