"It is fake news to say that the GreenDeal could cause economic damage at a European level and to Italian agricultural activity. What Europe is asking for is exactly what agriculture needs to survive."
Stefano Ciafani, national president of Legambiente, declared this in a statement.
"The Green Deal is not the enemy, but a strategic ally of the agricultural world - continues the leader of the environmentalist NGO -.
Farmers must be aware that their future and not their end depends on the Green Deal. The real enemies are the climate emergency, those who defend fossil fuels and slow down the ecological transition, exploiting the legitimate and indisputable reasons of those who work in the sector".
For Ciafani "it is clear that the demonstrations of recent days are playing into the hands of the fossil lobby and the parties opposed to decarbonisation, in view of the European elections next June. But questioning EU strategies, such as From farm to fork and Biodiversity 2030, it means completely overturning the assumptions".
For the president of Legambiente "it is necessary to create the foundations for a strong alliance between the agricultural world and the environmentalist world, precisely because farmers are the main protagonists of an ecological change in the entire sector. But to do this, it is necessary to guarantee income to the many small and medium-sized companies, which today are overwhelmed by the economic crisis, the effects of climate change and speculation on the price of agricultural products".
