A young Ottobrunn couple comes across a dubious tradesman after a water pipe bursts in their new house.

In desperation, they hired a lawyer.

Ottobrunn

– A family is the first to experience water damage in the bathroom of their newly moved house in Ottobrunn and, due to full appointment books, cannot initially find any tradesmen who can remedy the situation.

Through an internet platform, the couple Kerstin and Alfred Deixler (both 33 years old) got in touch with a craftsman from the Freising district who wanted everything done in four weeks.

But as it turns out, he doesn't finish the work.

That's why the victims want to warn others not to fall for this scam.

In October 2022 they will buy a house in Ottobrunn

The young owners originally come from the Munich district.

Alfred Deixler grew up from Ottobrunn and Kerstin Deixler grew up in Höhenkirchen.

They initially lived in Munich, then looked for a home with the desire to start a family and bought a house in Ottobrunn towards the end of the corona pandemic, in October 2022.

Two days after the keys were handed over, the entrance area was full of water.

The unadulterated happiness didn't last long.

Two days after the keys were handed over, the entrance area was full of water.

As it turned out, the wrong pipe had been installed in the shower in the bathroom back in the day.

The water now made its way unhindered from the shower into the hallway.

For the couple, the damage amounted to a catastrophe.

After all, the two of them had paid over a million euros for the house.

But it got worse.

The installed pipe system is no longer produced in this type, which is why it was advised to replace all pipes and renovate the entire bathroom.

Nothing has happened in the Deixlers' bathroom for many months.

Market swept empty of craftsmen

But the market for craftsmen was empty at this point.

It took a long time to find a craftsman.

The couple came across the man from the Freising district on an internet platform.

It was agreed that the bathroom should be renovated within four weeks at an agreed fixed price.

Partial amounts should be paid divided into sections.

Half of the amount for work that was due was always paid down.

The rest should be paid after execution.

However, the owners paid in advance to equip the fittings, the bathtub, the sink, etc. and are still waiting for it to this day.

Paid several thousand euros

This involves several thousand euros that were overpaid.

The quality provided is also not up to par, which experts have confirmed.

Therefore, parts that have already been installed have to be torn out again.

At first everything seemed to be going well: the old bathroom was demolished promptly, but then suddenly the craftsman couldn't be reached for weeks.

“It was only when we threatened to get a lawyer that he suddenly got in touch again.”

Crisis discussions

The work progressed slowly.

In crisis discussions, the Ottobrunners tried to find a solution and offered that the craftsman should hand over the order and pay back the money he had paid.

“In the meantime we thought: 'Now he has understood and is finishing the work.'” However, he repeatedly failed to meet deadlines - with ever new excuses.

Kerstin Deixler: “Nine months have now passed and we still live without a bathroom.”

They have to live on a construction site with their newborn

This is all the worse because in the middle of the misery something very special happened: their son Phil was born in August.

“The gentleman was obviously not interested in the fact that we had to live on a construction site with our newborn.” In this respect, the experience is also a human catastrophe for Kerstin Deixler.

“The moral aspect stresses me out a lot.

How can you reconcile that with your conscience?

I was very pregnant.”

Attorney involved

The lawyer has now become involved and has set a deadline for all work to be completed.

The craftsman did not respond to the letter and the deadline has expired.

The family therefore assumes that he will continue not to touch any tools.

The next steps can now take place.

First the contract must be terminated.

The work can then be subcontracted.

The plaintiffs want to fight for part of the sum advanced in court.

However, the courts are heavily overloaded, which is why the family's lawyer expects the proceedings to be long.

This could take at least two years.

Luckily there is still a shower in the basement.

Luckily there is still a shower in the basement.

Otherwise the Deixlers wouldn't be able to stay in the new house.

Little Phil is now five months old and is being bathed in a baby bath in the living room.

The inconvenience, the money, the waiting: It is important to the Ottobrunner family to warn other people about a similar misfortune and to show the tricks that certain craftsmen use to stall their customers in order to get money but do not carry out the work.

“If we can use our story to prevent another young family from suffering a similar fate, a lot would be gained.”

Call for help

Professional craftsmen who can help the young family should contact the editorial team (marc.schreib@merkurtz.de).

It's about the final work.

The bathroom is half tiled (tiles no longer need to be ordered), and the final assembly of the sanitary installation is missing: sink, toilet, shower and bathtub.
