In 2024, families in the Freising region will also have the opportunity to host an international guest child at home for half or a full school year.

Freising

- Host families please report: District office press spokesman Robert Stangl: “Around 250 young people between the ages of 15 and 18 are traveling in February and September with the non-profit youth exchange organization AFS Interkulturen Treffenen e.

V. to Germany to get to know the culture and language of the country with a host family and to develop personally.

Many host families develop lifelong friendships with their host children.”

Together with AFS, the district administration is looking for families who would like to take in young people from a few weeks to a year.

“Hosting a guest child enables families to exchange ideas with other cultures within their own four walls.

At the same time, they experience their own everyday family life from a completely new perspective,” says District Administrator Petz.

“Every family from the region that has this experience not only enriches their own lives, but also makes an important contribution to intercultural understanding.”

Nathalie von Pressentin, integration officer for the Freising district, also supports the project.

“Hospitality opens doors”

The international exchange student program promotes encounters.

Conversations, questions about each other and time together bring you closer to people and cultures from other countries.

The program thus contributes to acceptance and tolerance in society." Stangl: "Host families are as diverse as the world: large or small families, couples with or without children, single parents, same-sex couples or seniors can provide young people from all over the world with a loving home offer on time.

What’s important is a big heart, a free bed, hospitality and curiosity about another culture.”

Admission is possible for a period from six weeks to a year.

The host families are prepared, supported and looked after by AFS before and during the exchange period.

There are voluntary contacts on site and the AFS office, which can be reached around the clock via a telephone hotline.
