A fatal traffic accident in the heart of Nantes.
A homeless man in his fifties lost his life late Sunday evening after being hit, drunk, by a tram.
The drama took place on Boulevard Stalingrad, the axis of the city center which notably serves the main access to Nantes station.
The sector was blocked for two hours, time to extract the lifeless body, which had passed under the railway vehicle.
An open investigation
The fatal collision took place around 11:30 p.m., between the Moutonnerie and Manufacture stops on line 1, right in front of the city's House of Public Tranquility.
The victim fell as the tram arrived, told Le
Figaro
La Semitan, responsible for public transport in the Nantes area.
“The tram driver was relieved of his duty and was taken care of by our teams
,” specifies the operating company.
Before collapsing on the rails, the man was seen staggering by several witnesses, report our colleagues from

He was intoxicated at the time of the tragedy, confirms a police source contacted by

The accident interrupted traffic on this central axis of Nantes.
Several police and fire vehicles were seen on site overnight.
Traffic was able to resume around 1:30 a.m., during the night from Sunday to Monday.
An investigation was opened in order to clarify the contours of the tragedy, identify the victim's possible companions and clarify with certainty the causes of death.
