In the morning, the speed limit on the street near the Sachsenkamer Kita is 30. A measurement showed that no one adheres to this.

The community now wants to raise awareness among road users.

Sachsenkam

- “No matter how you twist and turn it: Almost everyone drives faster,” said Sachsenkam Mayor Andreas Rammler at the local council meeting on Thursday evening.

The point of discussion was a speed measurement at the “Haus für Kinder” daycare center.

From Monday to Friday between 6.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m. you can drive past there at a maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour instead of 50. The reason for the reduction is that many children are taken to kindergarten during this period and school children also wait at the bus stop there.

Last year between mid-July and mid-October, a so-called Topobox was installed at the Bushäusl on Reutbergstrasse.

This box is used to record traffic by registering exactly how many vehicles of which type have passed the measuring point at what speed and at what time.

However, no license plates are recorded, which makes the measurement absolutely anonymous.

Rammler presented the results at the meeting.

The entire period was not evaluated, but rather random periods during and outside the holidays.

It became clear: “Tempo 30 will not be accepted,” said the mayor.

However, most people stick to the usual 50.

Conclusion: “No matter what time, people always drive at about the same speed.” This is on average around 40 to 45 kilometers per hour.

“The question is, how do we deal with it?” If the municipality now wants to regulate the speed, then there are two options.

On the one hand, you can purchase so-called dialogue displays.

These show the road user what speed they are currently traveling at and warn of excessive speed.

The number is displayed in either green or red.

The ad is intended to help raise awareness among drivers.

“Here we rely on a certain learning effect,” explained Rammler.

The purchase of the dialogue display would be between 3,000 and 4,000 euros.

First exploit other possibilities, then shine

A second option would be to involve the municipal services association.

“We already use him for parking at Kirchsee, we could also outsource the control of flowing traffic to him,” says Rammler.

This means that lightning could then take place between 6.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m.

“Of course that costs us money, but it also brings us money if people continue to drive as before.” Bookings would be made by the hour.

The association keeps four euros from each traffic ticket, the rest goes to the municipality.

“If we flash, some of the village will be caught,” said the mayor.

Karl Slawik wanted to know why the measurement was taken at all.

“Were there accidents there?” The community was repeatedly informed that people were driving too fast there, said Rammler.

“Sometimes children could hardly cross the street.”

Constant speeds of 30 km/h are not possible on this road

Florian Kropius found the 3,000 to 4,000 euros for the display quite expensive.

“Can you rent something like that?” Because in principle it makes sense to sensitize people there.

“Some people may not even know that you have to drive more slowly there.” Rammler had not heard of a rental option so far.

A sign that shows a smiling or sad face depending on the speed has already been put up there several times, “so far it has probably not helped”.

Franz Lettner wanted to know whether the maximum speed could not be permanently set at 30 kilometers per hour.

Difficult because this is a county road, says Rammler.

Could the time period be extended until 4 p.m., Lettner asked.

“Because there is also the after-school care center there, there is just as much drop-off and pick-up as in the morning.”

Karl Slawik and Hans Huß ultimately advocated making the 30 zone more visible, for example through flashing lights.

“If that doesn’t help, we can still blitz.

“We’re not under any time pressure,” says Huß.

After all, nothing ever happened there.

Rammler liked the suggestion.

“We can see what it brings if we set up our existing dialogue displays there.

To do this, we measure with the Topobox.

Then we compare the numbers – then we see what it brings.”

The local councilors were unanimous in favor of trying it this way.
