The dachshund has a life expectancy of 13.3 years on average, compared to only 11.2 years among the other type of dog. All dog owners want their beloved pet to live as long as possible, but a new study shows that the lifespan of small purebred dogs with elongated noses is greater than that of dogs with flat faces.

According to the study, carried out by the British charity Dogs Trust, this type of dog has a life expectancy of 13.3 years on average, compared to only 11.2 years among the other type of dog, a very popular breed in recent years, which has a 40% greater chance of living less than dogs with Nose medium in length, like the spaniel breed.

The researchers took information from 18 different organizations on 584,734 purebred or mixed-breed dogs, during which 284,734 of them died.

Combining all the different factors, the study, published in the scientific journal Scientific Reports, found that dogs live an average of 12.5 years, with females living slightly longer than males.

They discovered that large dogs live less than small ones, with the length of the dog's nose having an effect on this.

An example of this can be seen in dachshunds, who live an average of 14 years - compared to a French bulldog, who lives an average of 9.8 years.

And if you were wondering which dog lived the shortest of all, then it is the Caucasian shepherd, who lives an average of only 5.4 years.

The researchers also discovered that purebred dogs live slightly longer compared to mixed dogs, 12.7 years compared to 12 years.

However, they were unable to successfully test the different types of dogs involved because of the many breeds involved.

"The results of the study will be able to help potential dog owners, kennels, policy makers, various bodies and animal welfare organizations to make decisions that will improve the lives of dogs," said Dr. Kirsten McMillan, who led the study. "We identified groups that are in desperate need of attention Our heart, so we can focus on them and check what their problems are."
