"The mismanagement of food - states the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security Gilberto Pichetto - is a serious ethical issue, with profound repercussions on the environment and on the energy costs of our society".
On the occasion of the National Food Waste Prevention and Control Day, now in its eleventh edition, the minister explains that "when we talk about the fight against waste we are fully within the climate challenge: to win it, even in this field we must focus on the best practices that come from the most different productive and social realities of the country, which already today highlight winning models along the entire supply chain".
"The government - continues Pichetto - will continue to engage with regional and local administrations for an increasingly determined fight against food waste. Already today Italy has advanced legislation on this issue, which provides the tools to limit waste and donate food nearing its expiry date to those who are most in need. To this - concludes the minister - we must add an increasingly widespread awareness among citizens of the value of food and the impact that food waste has on our environmental and economic systems".
