A 17-year-old student was arrested by the police this morning in Varese on charges of injury for having stabbed a teacher at the entrance to school.

The officers intervened at the Enaip professional institute around 8am and stopped the boy who, according to the first reconstruction, stabbed the teacher

in the back

with a weapon brought from home.

The 57-year-old teacher teaches in the school that the minor attends and was taken to Varese hospital under code yellow and not in danger of life.

The woman was apparently

shot three times.

The police found and seized the weapon, a switchblade.

At the time of the attack, around 8 am, other students were already in class:

two of the victim's colleagues witnessed the attack

and were then interviewed at the police station.

According to what has been ascertained, the 17-year-old has behavioral problems and follows personalized courses.

Last

May a similar episode

occurred in the province of Milan, in Abbiategrasso, where a 16-year-old student from the Alessandrini scientific high school stabbed a 51-year-old teacher in front of his classmates, causing injuries to her shoulder blade, head and wrist.

"My job is to protect the 400 mostly minors who study here."

The general director of Enaip in Varese spoke briefly to reporters in front of the institute, explaining that "

there are already psychologists present who are helping the kids"

"The school is aware of the seriousness of the event and has already taken action to give the children and teachers psychological support in order to deal with the situation as best as possible".

Thus the management of the Enaip institute.

"It is important to underline - writes the institute, specifying that

the 17-year-old is a 'subject to a functional diagnosis'

- that the boy has always been followed with competence and professionalism by the school and accompanied to improve his psycho-aptitude skills".

"After this umpteenth, very serious, attack against a teacher, I reiterate my commitment and that of the government: teachers and all school staff will not be left alone, we will protect their professional dignity and their safety. The State, in addition to guaranteeing legal protection, will have to be a civil party for the damage to the image caused by this attack, because whoever attacks one of his teachers has attacked the State itself and must answer for it. In the case of minors, the parents will have to take responsibility for it, and it must be the bill on voting in conduct approved soon".

Thus the Minister of Education Giuseppe Valditara.

"The limit is full: once again a teacher was attacked and stabbed in Varese.

My solidarity and that of the League goes to her

. As a political force we have always placed the figure of the teacher at the centre. Our commitment to restoring authority to workers of the school has materialized with the measures desired by Minister Valditara and with the League's bill, first signed by me, which

stiffens the penalties

for anyone who uses violence against a teacher".

This was declared in a note by MP Rossano Sasso, first signatory of the PDL and leader of the League group in the Culture, Science and Education Commission of the Chamber of Deputies.

"The law, already approved in the House, will reach the Senate within a few days. But it is not enough. There is a need for everyone to become aware. All families must be aware of the dangerous drift in which we find ourselves".

"On behalf of the

Democratic Party,

I would like to express my closeness and solidarity to the teacher stabbed by a student at Enaip in Varese. A very serious episode, yet another involving a teacher whose safety is put in danger and which we hope will be clarified soon ".

Thus in a note Irene Manzi, national school manager of the Democratic Party.

"Teachers must be protected and valued because they play a central role in the civil and cultural growth of this country. Our closeness also to the head teacher, to all teachers, staff and students. This is a very worrying fact: now the the most important thing is to stay close to the affected teacher and the school community who is going through very difficult hours so that they can recover some peace of mind after this terrible episode", he concludes.

"The attack suffered by a teacher of a professional institute in Varese represents a very serious episode, unfortunately yet another that we have to record against the teaching staff. All our solidarity goes to her and the school community affected by this episode".

Thus the

M5S exponents

in the culture commission of the Chamber and the Senate.

"Aside from the responsibilities in this specific case, which are being examined by the investigators, we must ask ourselves the profound reasons that are at the root of similar episodes, intervening not only on repression and sanctions against those responsible but also on the spread of youth discomfort which must find in our school system a place for discussion, dialogue and if possible prevention, also through the presence of qualified personnel to guarantee the psychological support of our children", they conclude.

Coordinator of the Teachers' Guild: 'Safety must be guaranteed'

"This morning's episode in Varese, which follows that of Taranto, shows a worrying increase in incidents of violence affecting schools and their staff. At this point, it is necessary to address the problem of guaranteeing safety in access to schools".

The national coordinator of the Teachers' Guild, Rino Di Meglio, wrote this in a note regarding the teacher attacked this morning in Varese.

School Managers: 'We are worried.

New social and educational emergency

"We are worried - says the president of the School Managers' Association, Attilio Fratta -. We need the certainty of punishment, yes, but also the certainty of immediate restrictive measures, even of a different nature from criminal ones, which give rise to a condition of impunity that is no longer tolerable. There is a new social emergency, albeit educational, to face, the State must make its presence felt and must guarantee greater controls and greater safety for school employees".

Tomorrow at 12, in the headquarters of the Apulian regional school office in Bari, in via Castromediano, a meeting of school managers is scheduled, requested by the DirigentiScuola union, to talk about the attack on the principals.
