“a total of 3,492 homeless people in Paris during the night of January 25 to 26
,” indicated the town hall in its first report of the action, transmitted to AFP.
In 2023, 3,015 homeless people were counted.
The 16% increase therefore corresponds to 477 additional people.
While the number of homeless people had fallen significantly during the Covid-19 health crisis
“due to an increase in the number of accommodation places, their number has been increasing again since 2023”

In the capital, the central and north-eastern districts concentrate the most people on the streets: first central Paris, where the number of homeless people jumped from 386 to 659 people, then the 12th where it is also increasing in many areas. high proportions (from 274 to 457), and the 19th where it decreases slightly (380 instead of 400).
Of the 3,500 people identified, three-quarters
“were encountered in the streets of Paris and a quarter in specific sectors”
such as the embankments of the ring road, parks and gardens, train stations, the Bois de Boulogne and Vincennes or the stations. metro.
At the beginning of January, during an episode of intense cold, the government announced additional credits of 120 million euros, corresponding to 10,000 more places nationally.
This is a bone of contention between the State and the town hall, which criticizes the former for being forced to replace it in a sector for which it is responsible.
