Two 23-year-olds represent carnival in Munich.

And we always have to educate passers-by.

Munich – “Of course we attract attention with our outfits,” says Katharina Ibscher.

At the on-site appointment in a Munich restaurant, the conversation stopped when the 23-year-old entered the room in a floor-length dress.

She has a young man in a crisp white uniform in tow.

Frederik Jehle (23) swings his artfully decorated scepter.

Katharina I. and Frederik I. represent the state capital's official carnival prince couple for the Narrhalla Munich.

That gets to the substance.

The couple completes around 250 appointments during the carnival season.

“And new ones are constantly being added.” The princess stays with the apple spritzer, and there is a friend for Prince Frederik.

The program does not allow any escapades.

Flood of appointments during carnival season: “The only thing missing would be an animal shelter”

“There are usually social appointments in the morning,” explains Ibscher.

The carnival prince couple visited kindergartens, hospices and old people's homes and distributed donuts at the Munich food bank.

“It is difficult for many people to come to Carnival.

So we bring the carnival to them.” A driver picks up the two 23-year-olds around 8 a.m. and they fall into bed after midnight.

“The only thing we’re still missing is an animal shelter,” jokes Jehle about the flood of appointments.

“It's great fun to represent the Munich carnival.” He also means the appearances at the big balls.

“But I wasn’t born a dancer.” Caution is advised at the evening society events.

The 23-year-old strokes his uniform.

“I avoid roast pork or pork knuckle.” Because of the sauce splatters.

Carnival in Munich: “Many people don’t even know how it works”

Ibscher and Jehle are also a couple in their private lives.

When asked about the famous quote, both smile.

Eight carnival prince couples in Narrhalla history got married, six then divorced.

“I still think it’s easier if you go through this stressful phase as a couple,” says Ibscher.

“You know what makes the other person tick.

He's not a morning person, so I have to take the reins.

On the other hand, he knows that I can be a bit grumpy when I'm hungry." Plus, it worked quite well for her grandma too.

The former carnival princess Karin Söhnges (81) was married to her then prince husband, the later Narrhalla honorary president Carl-Peter Söhnges, until his death.

“Many people don’t even know how carnival works in Munich.

We want to provide information about how, where and when it is celebrated,” says Jehle, the motto for the coming days.

Ibscher agrees: “We are often asked: What are you actually doing?” says Ibscher.

There have been no stupid comments or unpleasant moments with passers-by so far.

“Our driver used to be a bodyguard,” jokes the 23-year-old.

“He knows his stuff quite well, there should be something.”
