Shocking moment in the morning: A bomb threat is received by email at five schools in Neuwied.
Hours later, the police were able to reassure children, teachers and parents: no bomb was found.
Neuwied - An anonymous bomb threat via email caused great excitement at several schools in Neuwied on Monday.
The email with the threat was received at five schools in the city around 10:30 a.m., a police spokesman said.
The perpetrator or perpetrators announced that a bomb would explode at 12 p.m.
The police took the situation very seriously, said the spokesman.
However, after a few hours, the emergency services were able to give the all-clear.
The spokesman said that the police's operational measures gave no indication of a specific threat situation at the Neuwied schools.
The investigators also used sniffer dogs to search for possible explosive devices in the schools.
There was initially no background to the bomb threat via email or to the perpetrator or perpetrators.
The police spokesman reported that the investigation was ongoing.
The affected schools were three special needs schools, one primary school and one vocational school, said a city spokesman.
After the police operation, those responsible in the schools were given the freedom to decide whether classes would still take place on Monday.
The schools were partially evacuated after the bomb threat.
Over a thousand children and young people were affected.
