Chechnya's ruthless leader is known for his expensive clothing.
But that wasn't always the case - the Louis Vuitton fan used to wear tracksuits to official appointments.
MOSCOW - Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov is known for many things, including his ruthlessness and his affinity for luxury goods.
“Putin’s Bloodhound” caused a stir last summer when he wore a camouflage jacket in a picture of a Telegram post.
But not just any jacket, but a 2,370 euro jacket from Louis Vuitton.
Contradiction: Western luxury goods despite incitement against the West
“The battle suit represents an important aspect of Chechen society – the culture of war, raw power,” political scientist Lukas Aubin told
Arte
.
“Chechnya and Russia see themselves as protection against decadent Western culture.” That is why it is so contradictory that Kadyrov boasts of such luxury goods.
The Chechen leader has an affinity for the luxury brand Louis Vuitton.

The Chechen dictator seems to be particularly fond of the Louis Vuitton brand.
According to
Arte,
excerpts from Kadyrov's office were shown on Chechen television: In one corner, a punching bag and equipment from the French brand could be seen.
What's special: There are only 25 sets in the world - worth 160,000 euros.
From jogging suits to luxury brands: Kadyrov's clothing changes after visiting Putin
But that was not always so.
The “bloodhound” that is so strategically and expensively dressed today has only developed over the years into what it is today.
“Kadyrov's communication through images began on the anniversary of his father's death,” Aubin explained.
After Akhmad Kadyrov died in an assassination attempt in Grozny in 2004, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited him to Moscow.

Obviously a drastic experience, because the Chechen's demeanor changed permanently.
The young Kadyrov appeared at the meeting in a blue tracksuit - a clear contrast to Putin, who was wearing a suit.
In the years that followed, a change could be observed in Putin meetings.
“Today he seems much more sophisticated – his clothes are neater and his appearances are clearer,” said the political scientist.

“Cynical”: Luxury camouflage clothing while soldiers lack equipment
The luxurious clothing with a camouflage pattern clearly distinguishes Kadyrov from the soldiers of Russia and Chechnya on the front lines of the Ukrainian war, explained fashion journalist Marc Beaugé at
Arte.
While soldiers often complain about a lack of and inadequately protective military clothing and equipment, Kadyrov spends huge amounts.
It is even “cynical.”
